YSL Poudre Sur Mesure Semi-Loose Powder Natural Radiance Review

I am getting drawn towards YSL products more – don’t know whether it’s the hype around the product or the golden packaging 😛 I love all the golden stuff on display at the YSL counter! This month I picked up YSL Poudre Sur Mesure for IMBB.  It’s pronounced weirdly in French 😛 I picked this product up because it looked exactly like my favorite loose/pressed powder – Clinique Superbalanced Powder Makeup with SPF 15.  Let’s see whether it matched up to Clinique’s makeup powder:

My Take on YSL Poudre Sur Mesure Semi-Loose Powder Natural Radiance:

Talking about the packaging first, it’s an all golden packaging which screams luxury! It’s awesome and I am a sucker for such pretty packaging, great to flaunt, you see! The round compact pan comes with a good-quality mirror and a plastic separator with a very soft applicator brush. The loose powder does not fly everywhere around because it’s stored beneath a grinding wheel with cutouts which you have to twist sideways to get the powder out. I mean you have to twist the top lid to either sides, and the sifter gives out the product for one-time use.

There’s no wastage of the product because of the unique packaging, you know, the cutouts churn out just enough each time.  One more remarkable thing about the packaging is that the grinder does not get messy at all – the problem that I was facing with Clinique.  To mention particularly, the applicator brush is densely packed and very soft.

Comparing it with the Clinique’s Superbalanced applicator, the Clinique one was not that smooth – it turned a bit rough with washing.  However, I find powder brushes work the best with both the powders.  I sometimes get an amazing whiff of fragrance, it’s not strong, it’s hardly there, sometimes I get the scent and sometimes I don’t, but I really enjoy that scent.

There are only 4 shades available, since it’s a loose powder, it’s not hard to find your match.  I picked up “Amber” because I thought it wasn’t too light or too dark for my skin tone.  It’s a finely milled powder, very soft, but does not feel silky between the fingers.

It keeps the skin matte for quite a few hours.  We are having such strange weather here, it rains sometimes and then it’s hot again.  In such a climate, it keeps my face matte for 3 to 4 hours and taking into consideration my skin type, that’s great!  It goes on naturally and smoothly on the skin and the finish is smooth and matte.  The texture is extremely lightweight and does not feel heavy on the skin.  There’s not much you get in terms of coverage, as I mentioned before, it works well as a setting powder.

Clinique’s Superbalanced powder adds a certain glow and brightens up the skin tone, whereas the YSL powder mattifies and sets up the makeup.  It gives a good finish to the makeup, does not look cakey or heavy.  It’s a lightweight powder and even if you apply a little extra, it won’t look over the top.  It will not cover any kind of imperfections on your face, not even acne marks, in terms of coverage – it’s nil. Nowadays, I just pat it on top of sunscreen and skip the foundation. It does not make my face excessively powdery even if I got a little overboard.  It hasn’t broken me out.  Before application, make sure you have moisturized your face because the powder has a tendency to cling to and emphasize dry areas on the skin.  It does smooth out pores, though only minimally.

Another point of comparison – there’s no SPF in YSL poudre – Clinique has SPF 15.  If I had to pick between Superbalanced and YSL Poudre Sur Mesure, I will definitely go with Clinique 😛

Cons of YSL Poudre Sur Mesure Semi-Loose Powder Natural Radiance:

• Does not provide any coverage.
• No SPF.
• Emphasizes dry areas on the skin.
• Smoothes out the pores only minimally.

Would I Recommend YSL Poudre Sur Mesure Semi-Loose Powder Natural Radiance?

Yes, if you are looking for a good setting powder with lightweight texture and smooth finish.
