Hi ladies,
In today’s post, I bring to you one of the coolest and currently very popular ways to stay fit. Zumba classes are full of people having fun. It is pretty easy to get caught up in the energy and excitement while exercising your body simultaneously. Read on to find out more about Zumba- an amazing form of workout, if you haven’t already.
What is Zumba?
Zumba is a workout disguised as a dance party. At first, Zumba classes drew on the music of classic Latin dances, such as the Samba, Merengue and Salsa. As it evolved over the years, Zumba has added all types of music, from hip-hop to country.
How is it such a good exercise?
Like other aerobic exercises, Zumba uses repetitive and rhythmic motion of the body’s large muscles. Thus, this will boost your heart rate and increase the flow of blood and oxygen to the body. It begins with a little warm up and is followed up with lots of dance, music, laughter and sweating.
Pros of Zumba:
• No complex choreography – The basic essence of Zumba lies in its simplicity as there is no complex choreography involved.
• A great mood elevator.
• Interval training – Alternating rhythms such as salsa, hip-hop, cha-cha, and even belly dancing in five-minute segments maximizes body toning and sculpting.
• Calorie burning – In addition to benefiting your heart and lungs, Zumba can help you burn off about 400 to 600 calories in an hour.
• Core muscles – Zumba concentrates on your core muscles which are the muscles of buttocks, legs, back and abdomen. These are the most important muscles for spine stability and overall fitness.
• Party atmosphere – Zumba is an aerobic workout that is fun and social. Would you ever say no to getting fit while in a party atmosphere?
Cons of Zumba:
• Constant motion – Because Zumba needs you to be in constant motion, you might find it somewhat difficult if you are very new to exercising.
• Difficulty keeping up – That is if you are overweight or have any medical conditions that can slow you down.
• Party atmosphere – While this is a brownie point for many, some people may not like the idea of a dance party.
Tips to maximize the benefits of a Zumba class:
1. According to your needs: If you are new to or getting back to exercises, ask for a beginner level Zumba class. There are also Gold Zumba classes for seniors with a less strenuous pace and even Aqua Zumba classes for a low-impact version.
2. Warm up: Always take into account a good warm up and cool down period for your Zumba classes.
3. Be comfortable: Make sure to dress comfortably and wear a comfortable pair of shoes. Your ankles and feet might get strained because of the dance movements.
4. Drink water: It is important to stay hydrated during a Zumba class. So do not forget to take your miracle drink with you.
I would love to know about your experience with Zumba if you are already into it and about your thoughts and plans to join this great workout, if you haven’t already.
Take care!
