Identify your skin tone
Your skin tone is the first and most important factor when it comes to wearing any makeup, and the same goes for red lipsticks too. First, try to identify whether you have a warm skin tone or a cool skin tone. You can check your veins; if they are green in colour then you have a warm skin tone and if blue then it’s a cool skin tone. Also, if you look better in gold, then you have a warm skin tone, and if you look good in silver, then you have a cool skin tone.
Choose your red right
We get red lipsticks in a variety of shades. There are neon reds, deep reds, wine colour, maroons and more. So, better go with the colour as per your undertones. Warm skin tones should avoid neon reds and go for deeper shades. Whereas cooler skin tones can use light and neon shades.
Prep your lips
Begin with prepping your lips. Don’t forget to clean your lips beforehand. Scrub them either with a lip scrub or with sugar granules. This will ensure that your lips are soft and are ready for the lipstick.
Liner is a must
Red is a bold colour, and hence it requires precision. So, a lip liner application is a must before your red lipsticks. Make sure that you first line your lips with a lip liner. Also, make sure that the lip liner is either nude or matches your shade perfectly.
Take care of lip pigmentation
Since red lipsticks are bright, they are attention seekers. So, make sure that you take care of your lip pigmentation also. It is best to apply a lip primer, foundation or compact on your lips before applying the lipstick.
Tone your makeup down
Again, if you wear a red lipstick and keep your entire makeup loud, then you might end up looking like a disco ball. You may be able to turn heads but in a negative way. So, better balance your entire makeup when you are wearing a red lipstick.
Keep the finish in mind
Red lipstick looks best when it has a matte finish. It gives a bold look to your makeup but you can also go with the glossy lip effect. So make sure you try the lipstick at the store to analyse what suits you the best.

Wear your red lipsticks with something classy or ethnics, else the red lipstick will not match the outfit. Also, when you are wearing a red lipstick avoid wearing too much of red in your outfit.
Consider the lighting
This is another very important step to remember. If you are wearing a red lipstick during the daytime then go for the soft and sheer shades; if you are wearing it at night time then go for the bold ones.
Thin lips
If you have very thin lips, then avoid wearing dark red shades. Either overline your lips or go for softer shades to make your lips look bigger and fuller.
