30% of world’s population is suffering from bad breath which is one of the most embarrassing things a person can actually suffer from. You might be very attractive, but bad breath can ruin your entire personality. Well, if you are a victim of bad breath, here are some solutions that will help you get rid of it.

Keep Your Mouth Clean
Bad breath is one of the unpleasant things that can be cured through some natural methods and practises. The most primary thing to be considered is to keep your mouth clean. You should brush twice a day as it will prevent bacteria build-up. Make sure you floss properly, as food mostly gets trapped in the gum line and between teeth.

Clean Your Tongue
So, how many of you clean your tongue along with teeth? Hardly few of us put this into practice. Surprisingly, there are more bacteria and food build-up on the tongue than teeth, which makes the breath smell bad. The food left on the tongue makes the mouth smell. You can clean your tongue using your brush, or better get a dedicated tongue cleaner.
Rinse Mouth After Every Meal
It is not possible to floss teeth after every meal or food you eat during the day, so it is always better to rinse the mouth with water. You need to fill the mouth with water and rinse it twice or thrice so that the food build up in the mouth, gets released with water. You can also use a mouth freshener to make your breath smell good.
Drinks Lots and Lots of Water
Water is one thing that is healthy for your body and mouth too. Drinking water can keep the tongue and mouth hydrated which also prevents bacteria from multiplying. Not drinking enough water can make your mouth dry, thus releasing a bad smell.
Always Use A Clean Brush
You might have noticed that after few month of usage, your toothbrush starts accumulating powder at the bottom. This can become a breeding place for bacteria which further gets transferred into the mouth, while brushing. You should clean your brush properly after every use and also change your brush every 2-3 months.
Chew Lemon Wedge
You can cut the lemon into few pieces, and keep chewing for some time. Lemon has great neutralising quality which helps to make your mouth smell fresh. Due to citric acid in lemons, it helps to stimulate the salivary glands thus fighting the bad smell. You can also keep some orange in the mouth, or any other citrus fruit.
Use of Mint or Cilantro
Take few leaves of mint or cilantro and keep them in your mouth for some time. You can also wash them and store the leaves in an airtight plastic in refrigerator, which will help to rejuvenate the taste buds and also neutralise the bad odour in the mouth. Girls, I am sure, you may be travelling from one place to another for work, so why not keep some mint leaves in mouth and keep working?
Chew Some Cloves
Many people suffering from halitosis are advised to chew a handful of cloves or fennel seed. Due to antiseptic qualities in the cloves, it helps to keep your mouth smelling fresh and good. You can also chew some basil leaves, parsley or any other herbs with antiseptic properties.
Use A Mouthwash
You can always practise 30 seconds mouthwash rinse after every meal you have. At least, mouthwash should be used twice a day as it prevents bacteria from growing. Or, take some lukewarm water and mix 2 teaspoon of baking soda to it. Now, use this every morning as a mouthwash. Baking soda helps to kill bacteria and contributes in making the mouth smell fresh.
Avoid Foods that Can Cause Bad Breath
You should always stay away from potent foods as they can make your mouth smell bad. Garlic and onions, among other foods, contain sulphur compounds that move on to the lungs after they are absorbed into the bloodstream. These pungent tasting food sticks in the mouth releasing pungent smell.

I think tongue cleaners are one of the best inventions for oral hygiene. My mom chews clove a lot. It is not only a mouth freshener but also a great pain reliever as well. It’s like natural sensodyne! 😀
very good article. 🙂
Oh! I had no idea about the clove being like natural sensodyne. Great tip, Rati. I must do this. Clove is so easily available and can be chewed any time. I have been practising tongue cleaning since I was a kid. I can’t complete my oral hygiene routine without it.
Very good article
