1. Oily Skin doesn’t need a moisturiser:

If you have oily skin, then it does not mean that you do not need any moisturiser. Every skin needs moisturisation. Oily skinned women should choose a lightweight moisturiser. It will not make your skin greasy but helps to keep your skin soft and hydrated by retaining its moisture. So, one should understand the difference between oiliness and hydration.

2. Rubbing your eyes causes wrinkles:

Rubbing your eyes does not cause wrinkles. However, the pulling action on your under eye skin makes it stretchy and causes sagging. Your under eye skin is very thin and delicate, so you should not apply any pressure on that area. However, if you keep rubbing your eyes very frequently, it may result in the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

3. Choosing skincare products according to your age:

There are different products for every age group, but you do not have to choose them according to your age. Regardless of your age, ageing of skin can start early, so you have to use products to treat the condition. If you have oily skin, you will have to use products for your skin type in your 20s, 30s and even in 50s. Also, you have to choose skincare products according to your skin conditions rather than your age.

4. All natural products are safe:

Not every natural skin care product is safe. You must go through all the ingredients in your beauty products and make sure to check if they are safe for you or not. I’m fond of homemade skincare products, but before using any ingredient, I always test it first to avoid any irritations or itchiness.

5. Exfoliation treats the scars:

Exfoliation only helps in getting rid of dead skin cells from your skin surface so that your skin products can work more effectively. If you exfoliate your skin on a daily basis then, it will cause irritation resulting in more damage. For getting rid of acne scars, use beauty products specially made for acne scars or use natural remedies.

6. You can get rid of oil and dirt with hot water:

Temperature has nothing to do with removing oil and dirt from your skin. Hot water will dry up your skin and will make your sebaceous gland to produce more oil and makes your skin more oily than before. You can use lukewarm water for your face and pat dry with a towel. Do not rub your skin with a towel as it will dry up your skin more.

7. Sunscreen is only needed in summers:

It is one of the biggest myths. You need a sunscreen not only in summers, but you need one in winters too. Sunscreen protects your skin from harmful UV rays, and these rays can penetrate into your skin on an overcast day also. Always use a sunscreen lotion with SPF 30 or more to protect your skin from tanning and other damages. Also, remember to wear a sunscreen even on a cloudy day.

8. Higher SPF sunscreen is best:

We all know, higher the SPF, higher is the protection from UV rays. Sunscreen lotion with higher SPF offers a broad-spectrum protection from UV rays. However, SPF 30 block 97% of UV rays, SPF 45 block 98% of UV rays and SPF 45 works as effective as SFP 50 or 60 or more. It is not true that higher SPF will block 100% of UV rays. So, no matter what the SPF is, one should always reapply the sunscreen frequently to avoid the damages.

10. You need a separate day and night cream:

You do not actually need a separate day and night cream. The only difference between a day and a night cream is that a day cream comes with a sunscreen. However, if you want to buy separate creams, invest in retinol-based creams for better results.

11. Acne will eventually outgrow:

It is the biggest of myths, and I keep hearing this one for many years; you do not outgrow your acne. You can suffer from acne in the 20s, 30s even in your 50s because your skin condition might be the same when you start to age, and your acne cannot outgrow at all.
