30 Easy Ways to Make Your Eyes Look Bigger

Hi ladies,

We all put a lot of effort to make our eyes pop. It is no mystery that you too can make your eyes appear bigger and make them pop even if you are not gifted with big doe eyes! So here are some clever makeup tips and natural remedies to help you make your peepers look their best.

Makeup Tricks

Go light on the inner corners

For pretty doe eyes, use a light eyeshadow or highlighter on the inner corner of your eyes. This will make your eyes look bigger and more awake.

Highlight the brow bone

Highlighting under the tail of your eyebrows gives an instant mega-lift to your eyes. You can use the same shade as on the inner corner of your eyes. A concealer will do the trick too. Make sure you use one that is lighter than your natural skin tone.

Layer up on concealer

Dark circles will make your eyes look even smaller than they already are. If you are not concealing your under-eye circles, you are committing a big mistake. Experts recommend using a pink-toned concealer first and the topping it with one that has yellow undertones.

Curl them up

Many women possess one or many eyelash curlers but never use them simply because they are scared! I cannot emphasise more on the importance of curling your lashes. Try them once and you will never regret spending those extra 20 seconds. The trick is to use a light hand and apply pressure at the base of your lashes and the middle.

Mascara, mascara and mascara

Mascara alone does a lot to help you achieve those flirty lashes. Apply a lengthening formula along the upper and lower lashes and brush a thickening coat over the top for instant glam eyes.

Double up on falsies

Another product most women fear is that amazing set of false lashes. Falsies add a lot of drama to your eyes. This one step is a must for most professionals. You can learn it from a pro before you indulge in false lashes. However, this step is completely up to you.

Shape your brows

We all love the neatly done eyebrow look, don’t we? You can also rock a thick brow look with a little maintenance. Make sure to keep them groomed. A little trimming and shaping did no harm ever.

Follow the crease

When applying eyeliner or eyeshadow, make sure to go up to the extension of the crease. If you are a beginner, you can use a scotch tape for the outline.

The eyeliner trick

There are multiple ways of using eyeliner to make your eyes look bigger, rounder, further and more dramatic. You have to learn which one suits you best by trial and error method. So keep experimenting!

Tightline your eyes

This step enhances your lashes and frames your eyes. I have already done a detailed post on tight-lining and many of you have commented about your wonderful experience. Give this one a shot if you haven’t already.

Lighten the waterline

Applying dark colours along the waterline can make them look sultry paired with smoky eyes. But to make your eyes look bigger and brighter, use a white eye pencil along your waterline instead.

Bottom out

For perfect almond shaped eyes, use your eye pencil to draw a line from the centre of the lower lash line outward. Make it a little thicker on the outer edges. Concentrate on the outer third.

Use different colours

Using two different colours while applying your eye makeup can really make your eyes look pop. Opt for lighter colours. Choose colours according to the colour of your eyes, hair and skin. But always go for lighter colours because lighter shades tend to make your eyes look bigger.

The ombré eye shadow effect

One great way to make your eyes look wider and more awake is by going ombré with your eye shadow. For this one, you need to choose colours from the same family. Use a lighter colour on the base of your eyelids and use a darker one near the crease. Blues and greens, blues and mints, coral and fuchsia – the possibilities are endless. Never be afraid to experiment with colours to see what suits you the best.

Visually extend your eyes

Winged Eyeliner Trick to Make Your Eyes Look Bigger

You can use wings to extend your eyes not just on the outer corners but also along the inner rim. First came the winged eyeliner, then the double wing and now is the season for inner wings! They all extend your eyes visually giving the appearance of bigger, wider eyes. Take some cue from our

Nude lips

The best way to draw attention to your eyes is to keep the rest of your makeup simple and natural. Nude lips do just that.

Blue eyeliner

Cooler tones like blues make the whites of your eyes appear brighter, thus making your eyes look bigger. Moreover, it is the latest trend and IMBB is already into it. For some inspiration, see Rati di, Chayanti and Esha flaunting their blue eye makeup looks.

Distribution matters

Evenly distributing eyeshadow over your lids can give you a subtle finish. But to make your eyes look bigger, there is another trick. Makeup artists recommend concentrating your eyeshadow on the middle of your lash line. Use a shimmer eyeshadow on the centre of your eyelids. Remember shimmer and not glitter.

Application trick

This is all about the placement of your eye shadow. The secret of this beautiful effect is to use light colours in the area extending under the eyebrow. Afterwards use a slightly darker shade in the outer corner of the eye, outlining in an upward direction.

Natural Remedies

Eye masks

Under eye bags and dark circles are definitely a woman’s worst enemies. But you cannot always avoid them. Have you ever come across a situation wherein you have had to work or study throughout the night and attend a party the next evening? In any such situation, you can treat under-eye bags with eye masks available in the market that instantly reduce under eye bags, or make one at home.

Cold spoon and chamomile treatment

Take two small teaspoons and put them in the freezer. Meanwhile, go and prepare an infusion of chamomile: 150 ml of water and 2 bags of chamomile. When it begins to boil, turn off the heat and let it sit. Next, when 15 minutes have passed, take those spoons that you left in the freezer and put them over your dark circles for at least 30 seconds. Now remove them and apply a cotton ball soaked with the chamomile tea under your eyes. This hot-cold remedy will reactivate the circulation and relieve the swelling under your eyes and it is very effective.

Green tea cool down

Research suggests that green tea can accelerate hair growth. This ingredient is effective both for reducing eye bags and to make your lashes grow. Soak a green tea bag in water for some and then keep it in the refrigerator. Now place them over your eyelids to get rid of eye bags. You can also use cucumber slices and Aloe Vera gel for a cool down. For lashes, dip a q-tip in freshly prepared and cooled green tea and swipe it over your lashes. This will make your lashes grow.

Grated potatoes

Grate some raw potato and extract the juice of the same. Now take a cotton ball and soak it in the potato juice. Close your eyes and place these cotton balls on your eyes. Make sure they cover the entire area of the dark circles under your eyes as well as the eyelids. Leave it on for 10 minutes and wash off with cold water.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E boosts hair growth and it is a powerful anti-oxidant too. You can take Vitamin E supplements or apply Vitamin E oil to your lashes to promote their growth.

Natural serum

lavender essential oil for eye care

This one is tried and tested. Take 1/2 tsp of coconut oil with 2 to 4 drops of lavender essential oil. Apply it to your lashes with a q-tip or with a clean mascara wand. Use it on a regular basis and you’ll see the difference in 2 weeks.

Oils or Vaseline

Some oils known to stimulate lash growth are coconut oil, castor oil, jojoba oil and argan oil. The best among them is castor oil. You can also use Vaseline to grow your lashes. But do not keep these products on your eyes all the time.

Massage your eyelids

Wash your hands first and apply a clean washcloth soaked in lukewarm water over your eyelids. Next, gently massage your eyelids and lash line with a slight pressure. You can do this with or without oil.

Take care of the skin around eyes

Invest in a good eye cream. Remember to protect your eyes while you go out under the sun. Apply a good sunscreen when you go out. Also, wear sunglasses and hats to protect your eyes. Always remove eye make-up.

Diet changes

Kerb the salt. It will retain extra water on parts of your body. That is why a dinner loaded with too much salt often results in morning-after puffiness. Also, increase your intake of Vitamin E.

Lifestyle changes

sleep for beautiful eyess

Regular sleep is a must. Too much sleep or too less sleep will make your eyes look smaller. Also, too much alcohol can weaken the delicate area around your eyes, and it is more likely to sink into a pouch. Stress, depression and a hectic lifestyle can all give you swollen eyes and dark circles. Practising yoga or meditation regularly can help you steer clear of any such problems that make your eyes look smaller.
