Two glasses of water, first thing in the morning is the best thing you can do for your health, experts say. Also drinking at least 7-8 glasses of water daily is imperative to help your systems work at their best. But sometimes, drinking plain water can get really boring. That is why I was quite fascinated by the idea of detox water. When I had first searched the internet for more information about detox water, somewhere I read that ‘it is a delicious way to cleanse your body and assist in reducing weight’. I instantly made up my mind that I was definitely going for this. Since then, there has been no looking back!
So today, I decided to post some of my favorite detox water recipes and also talk about this amazing drink.
1. What exactly is detox water?
Detox water is nothing but just plain water infused with the goodness of fruits. You simply put about 7-8 glasses of water in a jar. Add some fruits according to your taste and requirements in the same jar and let it stand for some time and voila! You have your glass of awesomeness ready. You can put it in the fridge overnight so that the water gets infused with the nutrients and flavors of the fruits.
2. How does it help?
To flush out toxins, our body needs lots of water. 6-8 glasses of water every day help to keep our body hydrated and the vital organs in their best possible health. Detox water gives your body the right amount of water, additionally infused with extra goodness and taste.
3. What can be added?
You can add ingredients like lemon which helps to flush harmful toxins from your body, mint which aids in digestion, cucumber which contains anti-inflammatory properties and ginger which is a natural pain reliever and aids in digestion.
Some waters contain melon, raspberries and other ingredients that are equally as healthy and beneficial. They are all very easy to make, require very few ingredients and the best part is you can mix and match ingredients to adapt the recipes to your personal taste.
• Recipe 1: Apple Cinnamon drink
You will need chopped apples and cinnamon sticks. Apples are packed with lots of fibers which help cleanse your body of toxins and aid in digestion. Cinnamon helps enhance metabolism. This drink can also promote weight loss owing to enhanced fat burning.
• Recipe 2: Lemon mint punch
You will need part of 1 watermelon or cucumber, a handful of mint leaves and 1 lemon or lime. Cut the watermelon into cubes and put them into a jar. Cut 1 juicy lime into wedges and toss in with the watermelon. Add a handful of fresh, fragrant, mint leaves and pour in 2 liters of cool water. Let it sit overnight in the fridge for better taste. Watermelon contains citrulline that helps the body get rid of ammonia. Lemon or lime regulates the digestive tract and stimulates bile production. Mint adds flavor and also aids in digestion by improving the flow of bile. It also relaxes cramped stomach muscles.
• Recipe 3: Berry blast
You will need a handful of raspberries or blackberries and half a lemon. Again lemon is rich in Vitamin C, is a powerful detoxifier and high in anti-oxidants. Berries contain anti-inflammatory phytochemicals that are anti-aging and anti-cancer.
• Recipe 4: Cucumber crush
You will need 1 cucumber chopped, half a lime and a sprig of mint. Cucumbers are full of great nutrients such as vitamin C, vitamin A, iron, calcium, vitamin K and potassium. They are especially great for detoxing because they prevent water retention and have anti-inflammatory properties.
• Recipe 5: Strawberry kiwi mint delight
You will need strawberries, kiwis and some mint. You can add ginger too. Kiwi is a superfood and is packed with vitamins A and E which help prevent free radicals and is anti-cancer. Kiwis also help flush out toxins from the colon, which improves your overall health. Strawberries help fight carcinogens and contain anti-ageing properties.
