In this post, I will share with you 5 amazingly easy DIY recipes using lemons targeted at 5 different problems. Also, a word of caution, lemons contain a chemical called psoralen, which bonds with the skin and makes it extremely sensitive to the sun. So anytime you use lemon for skin care, you should avoid sun exposure for 24 hours after the treatment because that’s how long psoralen stays on the skin.
1. Egg white, lemon and oatmeal mask to lighten mild hyperpigmentation
You can easily whip up this mask. Mix together lemon juice (half a lemon + water), half tablespoon almond oil, egg white and 2 tablespoons oatmeal. Leave on skin for 15 minutes and rinse. Lemon lightens spots, and egg white and oatmeal help in skin tightening and cell renewal. Weekly usage for 2 months will result in a noticeable difference in skin tone.
2. Lemon sugar scrub for skin polishing
Lemons contain natural alpha-hydroxy acids, which remove dead cells. Lemon juice and a cup of sugar mixed together can be gently massaged onto skin in circular motions. The result is exfoliated, radiant and soft skin. However, avoid if you have skin conditions like rosacea or dermatitis.
3. Lemon anti-dandruff rinse
Lemon juice is super-effective at getting rid of flakes caused by product buildup, dry skin, or dandruff. To use, you can dilute one teaspoon of lemon juice with one cup water, then massage the mixture into your scalp and rinse off after a couple of minutes.
4. Refreshing lemon pack for clear and soft feet
Blend one peeled lemon, two cucumbers, and 2 tablespoons of olive or almond oil until pureed. Transfer this mixture to a bowl, and microwave until it’s warm. Apply it on your feet and leave for 10-15 minutes and then rinse with warm water. Cucumber firms up and tightens skin while the oil deeply moisturizes.
5. Lemon detox juice
Lemon juice cleanses your kidneys and liver and strengthens your immune system. Adding a squeeze of lemon to your favorite green juice is superb for detox. Try an all-green juice with celery, cucumber, mint, spinach, parsley, kale, and apple with a dash of lemon and ginger.
