Orange is the most unwanted color on your head and it is embarrassing when you get orange locks even after bleaching your hair. In the end, you are left with two options – either deal with the orange hair or trim them from the ends. Why does your hair turn orange
While bleach helps lighten your hair, it doesn’t help get rid of the natural pigment that gives your hair its color. Almost every color has an orange and red tone in it, which is generally the residue left behind after you bleach. People with dark hair have the most orange tones in their hair, increasing the chances of orange hair after a lightning session. One more reason is the mineral deposit on your hair. However, there are a number of ways to fix orange hair after bleaching.
1. Fix orange hair using a toner
A toner can help remove the orange and yellow part from the hair leaving you with natural hair color. If you have a yellow hair color more than the orange one, use purple toners. And if you have more of an orange tone than yellow, use a blue toning shampoo a couple of weeks to neutralize the orange. Take some toner and mix it with peroxide in 1:2 ratio. Now apply the mixture on your hair with the help of a hair brush. Once you have covered the orange part on your hair, leave the mixture for 45 minutes. Rinse off with a shampoo later.
2. Fix orange hair using apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar proves effective in treating orange hair. You need few drops of blue or purple liquid food color, 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, 2-3 tablespoons of coconut oil and 1 cup of water. Now apply some coconut oil before you apply the mixture. Wash your hair the next morning and apply the mixture. Repeat this two times a day to neutralize hair.
3. Hollyhock herb and ACV
Using hollyhock herb and ACV can help treat orange hair easily. Boil some water and add some herbs and apple cider vinegar to it. Heat it for some time until the mixture thickens. Allow it to cool down and then apply the paste on your scalp covering the hair. Allow the mixture to stay for 10 minutes and wash off with a sulphate-free shampoo and apply a conditioner.
4. Convert orange hair to blonde
Instead of neutralizing your hair, the best way to deal with orange hair is to convert it into blonde color purely. Buy a good bleaching powder, a 30 vol developer, and a platinum or ash blonde box hair dye. Now combine the bleach and developer in 1:2 ratio. Now apply this on your scalp and let it sit for 30 minutes. Wash off your hair and do this two times a week to enjoy a complete blonde finish.
5. Covert orange hair to light brown color
Buy a lighter ash blonde color than the one that gave you your orange hair. Now apply it all over your hair according to the instructions mentioned. Let it sit for some time, which would be mentioned in the instructions. Wash off with water and condition well. Using an ash blonde dye on darker orange hair will neutralize the orange while not lightening your hair too much, leaving you with a nice light brown shade.
