Hola people!!! Brrrrrrrr…It’s Winter Time!!!
We often associate Bollywood with fashion, but there is yet another field, where we have seen fashionistas emerging every now and then, sports. Wait. What? You don’t believe me? Just hold on, and sit back, because you are now in for a fashion treat, across boundaries. These lasses are not just eye candies, they are mightily talented, have won their countries many laurels, and at the core, know how to win hearts, be it their sport, or their style. Some of them have even walked the ramp, oozing the same charisma, with which they have ruled the court. Let’s begin.
Sania Mirza, 28 – Tennis
She was the one, who glamorized a sport like tennis and took it to another level, in a country, where any other sport apart from cricket, was not even worth talking about. She is not only a smashing player on court, but also an intelligent woman, with a superb sense of style. Sania has never been shy of making ramp appearances, and we love her for giving kickass answers to those who questioned her nationality. You go girl! We love the way you play, we love your style and we love your attitude. She is a true pin up star, for tennis, in India.
Saina Nehwal, 24 – Badminton
She has been ranked 29 among the list of Celebrity 100, in 2012 by Forbes India. She is an inspiration, to the girls in our country, and has created a new generation of Badminton lovers. She is, Saina Nehwal, a girl from the land of Khaps, who went on to become a national sensation. Not only that, Saina is a pro when it comes to style. She is comfortable in her own skin, and dresses accordingly, never out of place, and never overdressed beyond her comfort level. A delight to the camera, and to her own self, Saina, is true star, with the charm of girl next door.
Sharmila Nicollet, 23 – Golf
A swimming champ at the age of 15, and a professional golfer by 18, this Indo-French lass is amazing at all the aspects of her life. A pro at her sport, she is has used her glamorous persona to attract the new generation to golf. Her dream is to make the sport a common household phenomena. Though it is hell of a colossal task, in a country where people have just started to look beyond cricket, one look at this fashionista but supremely talented beauty, and you will know that one day she would succeed in her goal. We wish her all the luck, and want to see more of her, on and off the golf course.
Anjum Chopra, 37 – Cricket
A girl with a bat in her hand from the age of 9. Sounds crazy, right? Meet Anjum Chopra. She held the bat once, and never gave it up again. In a country where cricket is only identified as a man’s game, she carved a niche for herself, made her debut at the age of 17 in the test cricket, and captained the team at the age of 23. We all know her talents as a sports star, and a subsequent commentator. Honestly, it was such a relief to have a lady on board who was not just an eye candy. Instead, we have Anjum, who not only exudes charm with her looks and dressing sense, but also is an expert commentator on the subject. A gorgeous beauty, with a terrific brain and talent to match it with.
Heena Sidhu, 25 – Shooter
In our country, not many are in favor of letting their daughters have a go at something like shooting, with a pistol in their hands. After all, a girl’s hands are meant to handle dolls, have to be tender enough to cook, and soft enough to look beautiful with mehendi on her hands, so why ruin that with a pistol? Apparently, Heena’s parents had a different opinion. This young lady from Punjab, is a dentist by degree, but had her heart set on blasting off the targets, ever since her school days. With a father and uncle, who are in the same field, it runs in her blood, and looking at her fashion sense and looks, apparently that too, runs in the family. Her looks and shoots, both are bang on targets.
Mary Kom, 31 – Boxer
The first Indian boxer to get a Gold in the Asian Games, 2014, we are proud of our “Magnificent Mary”. This mother of 3 came from a very humble tribal background of Manipur. The way she has carved herself, and reached this phase in her life, is an admirable feat. Her fashion sense and style has remarkably improved, ever since her biopic has been released. The confidence an humbleness that she oozes, is a beautiful combination, along with the glow that comes from a woman, who is truly at the pinnacle of her career, and has a beautiful and lovable family to support her.
So folks, here was a list of these admiringly stunning woman, who are an inspiration, to all of us. They are truly fashionable, yes, that comes naturally to you when you are a woman. But, at the same time, they have not confined themselves to the usual constraints of beauty. They have broken the barriers, lived their dreams, and made us proud.
