Hopefully you all are enjoying these pre-monsoon showers. 🙂 We all love nail polishes but they often lead to discolored nails. Along with nail paints, hard water, poor diet, and other household chores can make your nails yellow. So here are some remedies you all can use and how to use them.
Not only for teeth whitening but also for yellow discolored nails, hydrogen peroxide works great because of its whitening properties. This works well for yellow stained nails, but remember you can only use a solution that contains 3 percent hydrogen peroxide, not more.
You need three tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide and half cup of water. Then, mix them both. Soak your affected nails into the solution for two minutes. With the help of a soft tooth brush, scrub your nails. Then rinse with water and pat your nails dry and then apply a good moisturiser for hydration.
We all have heard that lemon can be used on stains because lemon is a natural bleaching agent and can remove any stain including yellow stains of nails.
Take a bowl filled with fresh lemon juice. Soak your stained nails in it for 10 to 15 minutes. Then use a soft toothbrush to scrub the discolored nails. After that, rinse your nails in lukewarm water. Then, apply a moisturizer to lock the moisture in. Continue doing this regularly until you are satisfied with the results.
Baking soda is famous for its bleaching and exfoliating properties that can help remove the stains from the nails.
Mix one and a half tablespoon of baking soda and one tablespoon of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide in a small bowl. With the help of cotton swabs or toothbrush, apply the mixture on the stained nails. Leave it on for three to four minutes and then rinse with water. Repeat this process for six to eight weeks.
Denture Cleaning Tablets
This would be an effective treatment for stained nails. The most common ingredient found in denture cleaning tablets are sodium bicarbonate and citric acid which help to remove different kind of stains.
Dissolve two to three tablets in lukewarm water. Soak your nails in the water for 15 minutes. Pat your nails dry and apply some moisturizer on your hands. Repeat this process three times per week for one to two months.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is a natural fungicide and has antiseptic, antimicrobial properties that will help you fight infection and nail discoloration.
Apply pure tea tree oil to your nails with the help of an eye dropper. Leave this for a few minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water. Do this twice daily for some weeks. Mix equal amounts of tea tree oil and olive oil together. Apply this solution to your nails using cotton swabs.
Toothpaste is not only meant teeth whitening, but is also used to get rid of yellow discolored nails for mild stains. You can use toothpaste that contains any whitening ingredient including hydrogen peroxide.
Apply a little amount of toothpaste on your nails. Leave it on for five to ten minutes. Using a nail brush, scrub your nails gently. Wash the toothpaste with cotton balls soaked in lukewarm water. Repeat this two to three times per week for a month.
What you eat shows through your body! If you suffer from discolored nails, chances are you’re not taking a balanced healthy diet. So, while trying the above mentioned remedies, make sure you are taking a proper diet for your nails too like foods rich in Vitamin B12, zinc, biotin etc.
