Today’s post has come just in time for the holiday and festive season. Many of us will find ourselves travelling to various destinations in the coming weeks. Long journeys in planes, trains, buses or cars are usually stressful, no matter how well prepared you are. To be able to look fresh and beautiful during these long and stressful journeys is a challenge in itself. However, I have compiled for your seven simple things that you can do as far as skincare and makeup goes to see a noticeable difference in the way you look during these travels. Let’s take a look at what these tips are.
1. Carry small bottles of dry shampoo and/or leave-in conditioner:
Your hair can get messy, greasy or frizzy during travel and that’s unavoidable. Depending on what your hair is prone to doing—getting greasy or frizzy—carry a handbag-sized bottle of either dry shampoo and leave-in conditioner and spritz in your hair as needed.
2. Make sure to moisturize:
The most important thing you need to do to make your skin look fresh when you travel is to moisturize thoroughly. Use an ultra-hydrating face cream/lotion to keep your skin plump and prevent dehydration. Instead of tea/coffee/alcohol, always choose to drink water or juice to keep your skin looking fresh.
3. Ditch the liquid/matte/long-lasting lipsticks:
Yes, matte lipsticks and liquid lipsticks are all the rage, but using these formulas while travelling can really dry out your lips, making you look dull and tired. Use lip balm as frequently as you can. If you really must have some colour on your lips, opt for a hydrating lip-gloss or tinted lip balm.
4. Don’t wear foundation:
Wearing foundation for a long journey will not only dry your skin out, but it will also smudge, smear and crease while you’re on the go. Creased and caked foundation can really make you look tired. To keep your skin looking fresh, opt for tinted moisturizer or a BB cream if you absolutely need some coverage.
5. Don’t wear mascara but curl your lashes:
Mascara is one of those makeup products that really go a long way in making you look nice and fresh, but wearing mascara on a long journey is a really bad idea, because not only can it smudge and smear if you fall asleep, but it will get really uncomfortable after a while. You must skip all kinds of eye makeup-mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow while travelling. But make sure to carry an eyelash curler in your handbag to give your lashes that instant lift when required. This goes a long way in making you look fresh and radiant.
6. Use a hydrating/refreshing face mist:
Carry a hydrating or refreshing face mist (there are many mineral water mists available in the market) to spray on your face at regular intervals. This will give your skin that much-needed boost of hydration without you having to touch your face (your hands may be dirty, which could spread an infection on your skin).
7. Keep your hands nourished and opt for neutral nail paint:
Your hands can get really dehydrated when you’re on the go. To keep your hands feeling nice and soft, make sure to use a hand cream liberally. Another tip that I find can go a long in making you look fresh after a journey is for you to wear nude/neutral nail pain when you’re on the go. If you wear bright or dark colours on your nails, they will look a lot worse when chipped (which is almost inevitable during travel). Neutral nail paint will look fresh even if it chips a little.
