Is there such thing as fashionable make up? Yes there is.

Trends in make up are as common as trends in fashion: whereas wide pants and oversized sweaters rule chic closets, dark eye-liners and casual lipsticks stand out in the dressing tables of the latest back stages. And trends have to change with times. It wouldn’t make sense for a girl walking down the street rocking the trendiest outfits but having an 80’s-like unflattering eye or face makeup ruining her look, would it? Take this tips into account on your next visit to your dressing table and that won’t happen:

Makeup Trend 1. Hair goes messy:

What’s the point in spending lots of money in expensive hairstyles when by not-combing it and arranging a casual last-minute pony tail or bun you can look twice as chic? You can take for your inspiration a girl that’s been dancing all night long and then decided to put her hair up in a bun.

Makeup Trend 2. Peach Lips:

Oscar de la Renta

No more femme fatale. This season makeup trend comes with sensuous peach lipstick. Make sure you use a nice brown/pink tone and then apply a sleek layer of transparent gloss. Choose a lighter or darker colour according to the hour your wearing it. For instance, the pretty Oscar de la Renta face above clearly falls in the night lips category. Have fun!

Makeup Trend 3. Dollhouse blush:

Lovely. That must be the word that describes your cheeks this season. Like a beautiful porcelain doll. Pick up some pale pink and blur it all over your cheekbones on daytime and at night curb a diagonal line from the top of your ears to your lips. Take as an example the picture above: a cute and fresh face depends on the blush, so have fun and make it look innocent and effortless.

Makeup Trend 4. Cold-coloured sparkly eye liner:

Marchesa

Bling bling is no longer tacky when it comes to eye-liner. Choose a cold colour such as blue or purple (but mainly blue) and don’t forget about the frost (lots of frost!) for the eye-liner and spread it all over your down eye-lid emphasizing on the part that is closer to the nose and the one that is farther. For the upper eye-lid use the same eye liner and pale blue shadow, then blur it so it doesn’t look too theatrical. Have fun with this trend. 🙂

Makeup Trend 5. No such thing as too much mascara:

DKNY

Wear false lashes if you have to but your eyes have to look like Twiggy’s. First apply a bit of Vaseline, yes Vaseline, for a more lasting effect. Then close your eyes a bit but not entirely and apply some mascara in the back of your upper-lids-lashes. Afterwards open your eyes entirely and apply it in the front part. That done, put a lot of mascara on the lower eye lid. And remember: a lot is a lot, if the trend works on Twiggy it will definitively work on you.

Makeup Trend 6. Leave the tanned skin for Pamela Anderson you don’t need to look like you have just returned from brazil, do you?. So don’t try to conceal four natural skin colour with some Doritos-orange foundation anymore, none of these season models did and they look fantastic. On the other hand, if your blessed with a natural tanned skin colour don’t try to cover it, be proud of it and make it work.

Carolina Herrera

Makeup Trend 7. Take eye shadow to the next level when you put some eye shadow on don’t limit yourself to the top of your eyes it turns out now it’s supposed to surround your eyes top and bottom. That’s crazy! Should I fake rings under my eyes? Exactly and you’ll be surprised to know it looks absolutely chic and avant-garde. It’s easy just remember to emphasize the part that is closer to the eyes and degrade the colour you pick as you move farther.

Makeup Trend 8. Wear natural colours: Unless you want to apply the aforementioned tips that include putting on some blue eyeliner or having some really crazy-coloured eyes, keep all your face very natural. Pick tones that resemble to your skin and don’t exaggerate. The idea is that it looks like you are not wearing any makeup at all and you are going to achieve that by wearing makeup. Ironic huh?

Well that’s pretty much it. You don’t have to be a haute couture model to be made up like one. Just eight easy-to-remember tips and you can become a walking Bobbie Brown campaign. Next time you meet your friends they’ll think you spent lots of money in TREsemme makeup and care when you did not even have to leave the comfort of your home. Just remember: messy I-do-not-care hair, natural tones that do not stand out an resemble to your skin tone and crazy eyes with lots of eye liner, shadow and Mascara.

  1. Hi Gisela,

Welcome to IMBB. 🙂 thoroughly enjoyed reading the article. I loved the eye makeup in Carolina Herrera pic. These days I am all for plums and purples. 🙂

The Oscar De La Renta’s model looks like a barbie doll. Isn’t it? 😛

      1. True. And honestly I was quite surprised. I was expecting all short and tawdry clothes from her!
Check Erin Fetherston’s collection out too if you get the time…it’s been one of my favorites this season.
        P.S. I didn’t know there’s a fashionista in you…we need some fashion posts too! 😀
