The winters have almost gone. Many of us gain some extra weight in the colder season, and now is the perfect time to get back into shape! Well today I am not here to tell you guys some tips on losing or maintaining weight but I am here to share with you guys some weight loss myths.

1. Myth – Frozen fruits and vegetables are less nutritious
FACT – This would have held true if you lived on a farm. Otherwise frozen vegetables or fruits if eaten raw hold the same nutritional value like when they would have been eaten fresh because they are picked ripe and immediately flash frozen. Just make sure to choose those frozen veggies which are free from added sugar and preservatives.

FACT – More often than not, those who skip meals throughout the day make up for those lost calories by eating larger meals in a later sitting. In particular, skipping meals tends to cause cravings for foods high in fat and sugar, which will eventually lead to weight gain.

3. MYTH – Carbohydrates are bad for weight loss
FACT – Carbs are actually a great source of energy. The body uses carbs as fuel to burn body fat during workouts. Just make sure to avoid processed carbs like white bread and consume more of whole grains, beans and brown rice.

4. MYTH – Eggs have bad cholesterol
FACT – One egg has 213 milligrams of cholesterol. The ideal daily consumption is 300 mg or less cholesterol if you do not have diabetes or any sought of cardio vascular disease. You should eat not more than 2-3 eggs per week if you are suffering from high blood pressure or diabetes. There is nothing like bad cholesterol in eggs!

5. MYTH – Early morning is the best time for workout
FACT – Almost every gym trainer would have told you this. You would get same results irrespective of your workout timings. What is more important is to work out regularly.

FACT – Body weight totally depends on your workout and diet. Only 25% of your body weight is determined by your genes. You can surely increase your metabolic rate if you perform strength and resistance exercises.

7. Myth – It is best to starve before an event
FACT – This way you send wrong signal to your mind and ultimately your body starts to store food for future use and hence you face bloating which is so bad. Just increase your physical activity before some big event!

FACT – Warm up is very much important for your body but there is no particular time of 20 minutes or so. You need to warm up to just prepare your body for the next level of intense exercise.

  1. So true! Especially the ‘workout first thing in the morning is not true at all.I am not a morning person and I don’t manage to do a good workout in the morning. It is different for different people and consistency is the key as you rightly said.
