9 Ways to Cool Down an a Hot Day

Hi ladies,
Temperature has crossed the 45 degree mark here in Delhi and the heat is literally intolerable nowadays. Let’s find out some easy peasy cool ways to cool down on a hot summer day.

1. Use facial mists

Go for cooling ingredients like cucumber, aloe vera or rose water in your facial mists and use them throughout the day to keep your facial skin cool. You can make your facial mists which are all natural and definitely more effective.

2. Avoid caffeinated drinks

Sweating is the body’s way of keeping our body temperature in control but when we sweat excessively, it dehydrates us. Caffeinated drinks dehydrates us even more so if you are feeling particularly hot then just have lots of water, flavoured water, Shikanji, chaach or coconut water to keep you cool and hydrated.

3. Snack on frozen fruit

Stay away from those oily and fatty snacks which can be too heavy for extreme hot days. Try frozen fruits which taste really yummy and are also very light. They also double up as really yummy ice cream minus those too many calories.

4. Use aloe vera instead of your regular moisturiser

Aloe vera has a natural cooling effect, it treats sunburns and it also helps to bring down the surface temperature of your skin fast. So refrigerate the aloe vera gel and use it as skin moisturizer for your body and face.

5. Eat smaller meals

The larger the meal, the more metabolic heat your body creates in breaking down the food. So try to have smaller and lighter meals throughout the day that won’t weigh you down. You can also try to avoid foods which are high in protein as they increase the metabolic heat of the body even more.

6. Eat spicy food

high calorie food
Spicy foods might be the last thing on your mind on hot days but they can actually make you cool down a bit. Spicy food stimulate heat receptors in the mouth which make your blood circulate faster through your body and it will cause you to sweat more which in turn help your body to cool down.

7. Wear loose fabrics

Anything that is too tight won’t let the sweat evaporate properly and you won’t feel as fresh and cool. So try to stick to loose flowy fabrics preferably in cotton or linen.

8. Avoid strenuous activities during the day

Avoid strenuous activity which will stimulate your body and raise its core temperature thereby making you feel hot. If you exercise or jog, then do it in the early mornings or late evenings.

9. Try these age old remedies

• Run your wrists under a cold tap for five seconds each every couple of hours. This helps to cool down the blood of the system and in turn makes you cooler.
• Wet a towel or scarf with cold water, ring it out and place it on the back of your neck for as long as you want. This has a cooling and soothing effect on your whole body.
