My college is almost over and I’m excited to be home finally. Back home, I can relax in the chilly weather which is missing in South India. Winter brings in a lot of things we like – coffee, lots of new makeup products, blazers, coats, boots, and the list is endless. It also brings things we don’t like. For beauty and makeup junkies, such as us, it is bad skin which tops the list. Here are a few tips to shield your skin from the cold.
1. Visit A Dermatologist
The local drugstores may not be able to give you good advice. It’s best to invest in a specialist once; one who can analyze your skin problems and come up with a great skin care regime. The products can be inexpensive and effective as well.
2. Moisturizing is The Secret
Moisturizing in winter and summer has two different meanings. The moisturizer that worked in summers may not work in winters. It is advisable to use oil-based moisturizers in winters. Oils for face must be chosen with care because not all oils are appropriate for the face. Look for non-clogging oils such as avocado oil and almond oil.
3. Sunscreen is Still Important
Most of us tend to avoid sunscreens in winter (so do I) as we consider it unnecessary. Winter sun may do just as much damage as the summer sun without you realizing it. Choose a broad spectrum sunscreen and use it like it is your job.
4. Avoid Wet Gloves and Socks
Wet gloves and socks can irritate your skin and cause itching, cracking, sores. It is best to wear completely dry ones after moisturizing.
5. Use A Humidifier
Central heating systems suck the moisture from your skin. Humidifiers get moisture in the air and prevents the skin from drying out. Using various small humidifiers help disperse the moisture more evenly.
6. Greasy Feet
Replace those summery minty lotions with stronger lotions that contain petroleum jelly or glycerine. Using exfoliators to remove dead skin often makes it easier for your skin to soak up the moisturizer.
7. Cleaning Regime
Avoid using alcohol based toners, cleansers that peel off moisture from the skin. Instead, find a milk foaming cleanser or a cleansing milk that are hydrating.
8. Hot Baths: NO!
Hot baths in winters are tempting and it feels great to soak your cold self in the hot water. This hot water strips the moisture off your skin. Instead, use warm water and try decreasing the duration of your baths.
9. The Red Nose
Most of the dry skinned beauties have this problem. The nose becomes dry, patchy, red and cold. Use a cream with ceramides and use a protective ointment to keep that nose safe.
So are you ready to save yourself from this weather? I am! 🙂
