A Style Guide for Navratri

It is the third day of Navratri today and living in London I don’t really get to enjoy this period as much I did while I lived in Mumbai. Nevertheless, that does not mean that it stops me from lusting after Indian outfits, that I want to purchase for my collection in the future. So I thought of compiling a style guide for Navratri and to embrace the festive season it is.

For me Navratri is all about colour! So you will be seeing a lot of colour throughout this post.

Red and Pink Anarkalis – Navratri being a festival celebrating Mata Rani, how can one not wear the colour of Mata? Do try and incorporate a lot of red in your Indian outfits this Navratri. Red Anarkalis with embroidery will sure make you look like a diva during this auspicious festival. Bipasha Basu looks absolutely ravishing in this red anarkali designed by Manish Malhotra! The heavy gold embroidery is the show stealer in my opinion! I love how the kurti is as long as a maxi dress, it is pure elegance and class. Pink is another one of my favourite colours worn during this festival, and Aishwarya Rai carries off this Anarkali so well! Now you don’t have to go for such heavy embroidery unless you are jet setting off to a Navratri party, but this is another colour of Mata and the pink coloured anarkali paired with a set of Jhumkis, will look absolutely extravagant.

Orange Coloured Saris– So like I said, this post shall be all about colour. Orange is a vibrant and fun coloured that looks absolutely stunning in Indian wear. Orange coloured Saris are so eye catching and I am definitely lusting after some for sure. Try sheer orange coloured saris, team your light orange sari with a pink coloured blouse like Yami gautam or go bold like Kareena by choosing a โ€˜narangiโ€™ orange saree and a contrasting yellow blouse! It sure will turn some heads around.

And if you feel as though orange will not compliment your skin tone, don’t fret, you can still wear hints of orange in your saree. Just like Priyanka Chopra has done, the dusky beauty, wears a skin tone complimenting sari, with an orange border on her pallu.

Lehenga cholis– How can we forget these during the Navratri festival?? Garba night is all about dressing up and it is an excuse to wear your heaviest lehengas you have! I absolutely love love love wearing Lehengas. They are so beautiful and long flowing, it is like an anarkali with the feeling of a sari! Cause of the choli. But for Navratri, we must remember, if you are the sort of person who loves dancing, you will definitely need a ghagra that is not too heavy and will allow you to dance your heart out. Our celebrities love to wear heavy ghagras, but we must refrain from doing the same otherwise it might result in us fainting! This sort of a lehnga is perfect for navratri, it has all the bright colours you need for the Garba dance festivities!! The gold coloured blouse, is perfect as it raises the glam quotient up a bit, without the need for heavy embroidery which might hinder your dancing.

So this is my take on what you ladies can wear during the festivities! Colour is the main thing you need to be incorporating into your outfits and try and wear royal blues, reds, fuchsia pinks, oranges and if you are feeling bold do go ahead and experiment with neons! They look lovely in Indian clothes.

    1. rakshita, you can do gold brown smokey eyes or even add a hint of green on the lids. Depending on the color of the green you can pair it up with a coral or a pink lipstick. ๐Ÿ™‚
