Activated Charcoal for Skin Care

Activated charcoal for skin care

Activated carbon, also called activated charcoal, activated coal, is basically regular carbon processed and heated in such a way that the surface area is increased hence it becomes porous to absorb toxins. It has been used for hundreds of years and was even used to purify water.Lately, this has been used for skin care and you might have seen the Pond’s face wash and many face packs making use of activated charcoal.

Activated charcoal is so porous that it can absorb much more toxins and atoms and ions, than its own weight. In terms of skin care, this porous activated charcoal helps in cases of acne to purify skin. Again it is wonderful for cleaning makeup off he skin. Basically it works great for skin impurities.

Acticated charcoal can clear clogged pores by drawing out dirt, grime, oil and other impurities that clog the skin. It is capable of trapping bacteria, surface dirt, poisons and chemicals and make skin pure. This helps in acne and uneven skin pigmentation as well.

These activated charcoal available n the form of capsules can be mixed with rose water, tea tree oil droplets and aloe gel and used as a face mask. Since this is black, this can stain easily. Activated charcoal soaps are also available for skin care.

Activated charcoal can also be mixed with bentonite clay and water into a mask and used for ten minuted before being rubbed off with a wet cloth. This will rid your skin of makeup too.

This has also been known to whiten teeth, heal wounds, eliminate itchiness and also help with poison ingestions, gastro-intestinal issues and hangovers as well. It should be known that activated charcoal is not effective on strong acids, alcohols, cyanides and boric and mineral acids.

Here is a list of products based on activated charcoal that you can try out:
