Alba Botanica Very Emollient Sunscreen Lip Care SPF 25 Review

Summers are upon us and so are the days of sunscreen products. Although, using sunscreens is a must even in winters, in summers, sunscreens become inescapable! Now all of us get our summer gear out, the body sunscreen, face sunscreen, sunglasses and the works. But we forget our lips. Our lips also need sun protection. Very often, sun burnt lips become pigmented and the skin peels off. Not only is this unsightly, but very painful too.

So I went and purchased a couple of SPF lip products. One is the Alba Botanica SPF 25 lip care and the other one is the famous SuperGoop Mint Fusion Lip Balm (review coming soon!)

This will be a review of the Alba Botanica very emollient sunscreen lip care.

Price: INR 450 (This is cheaper in USA @ $2.99)

Product Claims: This hypo-allergenic SPF 25 lip balm provides sun protection for your delicate lips. Made with preferred sunscreen ingredients combined with Aloe Vera, Cocoa Butter and Sunflower Seed Oils, this balm keeps lips moisturized, soft and supple. Vitamin E provides the rich antioxidant protection needed after a day in the sun. Apply liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply at least every 2 hours. 100% Vegetarian Ingredients. No: Animal Testing, Artificial Colors, Synthetic Fragrances, Parabens, Phthalates, Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate or Sodium Myreth Sulfate.

My Experience with the Alba Botanica Very Emollient Sunscreen Lip Care SPF 25:

I love Alba Botanica products. They are all natural and free from any sort of harsh chemicals. Knowing that something I am using an all natural cruelty free product, relieves a lot of my concerns. This lip care is basically a chap stick. It has an easy twist up mechanism. However, I have faced and issue with this chapstick, l Ike the Maybelline balms, the twist back into the tube is a real chore. It is difficult to twist the product back into the container.

The lip care has a bright sunny yellow packaging. The stick itself is like solidified margarine. On a single swipe it gives a decent sheen to the lips, but using a single swipe of the product is neither enough for moisturization, nor for sun protection. On multiple swipes, however, it leaves a whitish cast, which I feel is quite ugly. I make it a point to apply this lip balm at least 15-20 minutes before I leave the house. This gives the lip care time to activate the sunscreen and the whitish cast wears off a bit.
I guess if you keep on reapplying it throughout the day, it will keep the lips hydrated. I for one, am personally, not a fan of lip balms that sit on the lips. I have been on the lookout for a lip balm that moisturizes my lips, without reminding me all the time that I have it on. Forunately, my search is finally over 😉 This is not my HG lip balm though; II will soon come up with a review of that one 😉

Pros of Alba Botanica Very Emollient Sunscreen Lip Care SPF 25:

• Good SPF protection
• 100% Veg
• No harsh chemicals
• Decent moisturizing power

Cons of Alba Botanica Very Emollient Sunscreen Lip Care SPF 25:

• Sits tacky on lips
• The twist up mechanism is not good, it was difficult for me to put the chap stick back in the container even after the swatch 😛

Final Verdict on Alba Botanica Very Emollient Sunscreen Lip Care SPF 25:

I find it to be an average product. There is nothing bad about it. Infact, since it has SPF, it is an added advantage in the sun. I wouldn’t repurchase it though.
