First of all, I want to share something special. It might not be much, considering that there are writers here at IMBB who have done much more, but it is, a special moment for me. I am 50 reviews old!! Sigh! How time flies! I just think that it was yesterday, 16th December 2013, when I had mailed my first review, which was a BB cream comparative, to IMBB. I was waiting anxiously for their response. I still remember how happy I was to have it published. I kept pestering the team whole day long with my silly queries. When the review was finally published, I can’t explain the exhilaration and the feeling of an achievement that came inside me. So, I am inserting a cute and small collage of few of my special moments at IMBB. Although there are many, but these are the “especially special” ones. 😀 😀

Alkaline++Diet+The+New+Food+Fad

Since this was a half century article for me, I thought of picking up a topic, which is not yet so popular, but at the same time, is dead useful. Remember all those New Year resolutions? I bet the most common one, for beauty junkies like us, is going on a diet. But rarely do we follow up on our once drunken eve resolutions. And when the D-day comes, and there is less than a month left for a big occasion where we want to fit into that sexy black dress, we saw the other day, we realize we are a size or two larger. So, what do we do? The scariest of all, emergency solution of crash dieting or a bit better one, detox diet. I don’t know about you girls, but honestly, if I go on a detox crash diet ever, I am going to beg for food the very next day. Quite literally “GIVE ME SOME FOOOOOD!!!”

So, the other day I came to know about this new form of diet. Apparently, it was new for me, and I still do not know how many of you know about it; Alkaline diet. Upon researching and asking around, I found out that it is indeed a healthy way of dieting, where you do not need to torture yourself to starvation, and you will gain and retain the glow. Read on to find out more about it.

What is Alkaline Diet? Why does our body need it?

Scientifically, the human body should maintain a pH balance of 7.35 to 7.45, which is slightly alkaline. Also, from what we have studied in high school biology (although I doubt most of us remember it 😛 ) , human body is essentially alkaline, but the functions of our various systems and organs, produce acid. Most of the tasty yummy food that foodies like me, gorge on are also acidic. So all in all, you can say that our body slowly becomes more acidic than alkaline, what it naturally is. A pH of 7.0 is neutral. A pH below 7 is acidic. A pH above 7.0 is alkaline. Most of us fall in the “below” category. 😛

Well, you can say, that our body needs more of alkaline minerals, in order to compensate and nullify the effects of our acidic diet. If you have an acidic imbalance in your body, it will decrease the body’s ability to absorb minerals and other nutrients, decrease the energy production in the cells, decrease its ability to repair damaged cells, decrease its ability to detoxify heavy metals, make tumor cells thrive, and make it more susceptible to fatigue and illness. A blood pH of 6.9, which is only slightly acidic, can induce coma and death. Very scary. 🙁

One of the best things that we can do to correct an overly acidic diet, is to curb down the foods that are acidic, like, meat, fish, poultry, eggs, grains, and legumes and increase the intake of alkaline foods like fruits, green vegetables, peas, beans, lentils, spices, herbs and seasonings, and seeds and nuts. It is not a very tough task too, because essentially, our body, in order to be healthy, should maintain about 60% of alkaline diet, 40% of acidic. See! I am nearly skipping telling you all this as maintaining this proportion is not tough at all. You are not missing anything, and having all your favorite foods!! 😀 😀 Now of course, if you want quick results, you will have to cut down on acidic intake completely, but for easy goers, this proportion works just fine, as per the experts.

A word of caution: These stars follow the extreme version of alkaline diet, which means that your intake of acidic food like pasta, chicken etc. and your intake of cold drinks, tea and beverages is completely cut down, or just about 5% to 7%. However, if you want quick shedding of weight, then this is the healthiest option.

  • Root vegetables like carrot, beet, turnips and radish.

Almost all the alkaline foods have the potential to give you clear and radiant skin which boasts of healthy glow. You know our moms weren’t fooling us when they were always after our lives, to eat leafy vegetables, in our childhood days. They had their reasons.

Eating dark, leafy greens and other vegetables like beetroot, sweet potatoes, kale and avocado along with barley, quinoa and lentils is what the alkaline diet experts say will transform your health and wellbeing. Forget a pot of promises costing hundreds of pounds – these foods are apparently the fast track to glowing skin, stronger nails, a flatter tummy, more energy and a calmer mind.

Summing Up:

One thing that you should keep in mind, that alkaline diet is all about being healthy and beautiful, with a clear skin, mind and body. It means, you may, or you may not lose weight. Many a time, the effects are in the form of visible improvements, but that does not essentially mean that you will be shedding loads of kilos and start looking anemic. No, going alkaline is all about balancing your diet, and cleansing your system from within for long term benefits.

Thank u for sharing dis. It ll help each n evryone of us. Nd yaa i hav a doubt regardng lemon. Isnt it acidic? I mn lemon z really good for health in evryway. But i thot its citrusy n its acidic!

Hi Arti 😀 Thanks u for your appreciation 🙂 Yes, lemon has citric acid, but it is considered a very mild acid..the basic nature of lemon is alkaline…that’s why you must have noticed that the beauty bloggers and even our mothers tell us how beneficial it is to drink warm lemon water first thing in the morning..as it cuts down the fats..acidic foods are high and rich in fatty acids..hope that helped 🙂

    Though most of the foods you have listed here are actually quite acidic..like Apple..lemons..especially..and they increase acidic nature…so…I am confused…

Thanks Dharani 😀 The acids contained in these fruits and foods are very mild..for example, the citrus acid in lemon..they are basically alkaline in nature..u know lemon is the most alkaline one with a pH value of almost 9!! 😀 That is the reason most beauty bloggers and even our moms swear by that glass of warm lemon water in the morning..as the alkaline nature cuts the fats and fatty acids..hope that helped 😀
