All about Tattoos: Precautions and Aftercare

All about Tattoo Care

Hi Lovelies,

How are you all doing?
I am really enjoying writing things for IMBB. I find myself smiling all the time until I finish it. Today I will be explaining about one of the desired things of our generation. Body art; I have seen gaining much importance nowadays. There are many forms of body art but tattooing I feel is the most speculated about.

So, I was planning to get a tattoo for a long time but somehow could not gather up the courage pertaining to the factors related with it. We generally talk about the after care of the tattoo but there are many things that you need to take into account before allowing the needle to run over your body. Here are some points that you need to keep in mind:

The Best tattoo parlor: The reason I emphasize on the work Best is because this helps you to relax while getting tattooed. Ensuring you are in good hands will automatically omit all the worries. Spend time researching experienced and professional tattoo artists in your city. Check the rating and try visiting the place prior to fixing an appointment.

Clean and Hygienic environment: Ensure that the place is neat and clean. If there is someone getting a tattoo while you visit, take a look at them and their experience with the tattoo artist.

Finalizing the cost and design: You may have something on your mind but the artist will give you an exact idea of how the design will look on you. Follow the guidelines he gives and pick up the design deciding on all factors. The cost varies at every place but mostly depends on the size of the tattoo (in inches).

Body area: You need to be sure of the body part you want the tattoo ensuring all the possibilities of care. Many areas on our body do not cause pain as the rest may.
Allergies: While the black ink does not contain any extraordinary ingredients but it is always good to ensure that if you are allergic to anything. Every artist has a different set of things there ink is formulated with. Ask them about it.

Keep in mind that this is a permanent change and cannot be changed. Removal procedure can cost you a lot bucks with much pain.

I decided on many things through the past year, then finally decided to get my hubby’s name imprinted on my wrist as a gift on our anniversary. This however was a common thing and I wanted to do something different. The artist suggested me to go for an ambigram. Now, what is an ambigram? It is a combination of two words or names, which are visible on the opposite sides. However, for designing one the count of letters should be the same. I am glad that my name exactly matched with no of letters as my hubby’s name. I really liked the idea and immediately booked an appointment.

I took him on the day of appointment and explained the concept. He liked the idea and decided to get it done on his wrist also. πŸ˜€

Before proceeding, the artist asked me to read and sign on a set of instructions that he would not be responsible for any infections caused due to allergies or infections that I may have because of the ingredients. Though I was a little skeptical about it, I singed it because his parlor was listed in the top 5 of India’s tattoo parlor when I googled.

On starting, ensure that he has put on gloves and taken out a new needle for you. The needle’s thickness may vary for large and small designs. Confirm that the design is correct and you are not confused about it. Ask him to draw a tiny line or curve at first to let you know if you can handle the pain.

The pain varies from person to person, some may experience a large amount of discomfort while for some it is like mosquito or ant bites just hundreds of them. Test if you are okay after the small idea that he/she gave, ask him to proceed if you feel so.

Try thinking about some others things and talking to a friend you got along. But with minimum noise so as not to disturb the artist. First, he will outline the design and then fill it. He should be calm and not rushing to finish it. This can damage the quality of your tattoo and ink can bulge out. Every person has its own way of working, try not be overemphasizing unless you really feel that something is wrong.

After it’s done the artist will clean the area and bandage it for some amount of time. He will provide you with a set instructions which you follow with your heart for at least two weeks. Since, every ink is different DO NOT follow anything and everything you follow on Google and your friends tell you to. Trust the person you got tattoo from, he will provide you with the best of it.

Realize that it is an open wound and needs to be healed after you have removed the bandage follow the exact guidelines to you. Once your tattoo starts healing you experience itchiness, the best thing is to ignore it. Try not to touch your tattoo with dirty hands and this can be major source of infection. After a week or so the dead skin starts coming out relieving the imprint on your skin. Let the process be natural and do not try to pull it out.

Your tattoo needs to breathe, avoid covering or wearing tight clothes for some days. If is rubbing off with anything then the ink is most likely to spread damaging the appearance.

If your follow the instructions and take care of it like a wound then you are sure to flaunt it well.

Take care!

i think needle size can be looked into, as i am not very happy with my recent tattoos, i would have a liked a finer needle
Choosing color can also be another factor.
i washed the tattoos with baby soap for a week, twice a day and applied neosporin twice too
if you are not happy with the design sketch or size, point it then and there πŸ™‚

I would like to add a few points to the above post.
I got 2 tattoos-one on my wrist and other on the nape of my neck. Both the times the Tattoo artist told me the below points:
    – Not to expose the tattoo to sunlight for around a month, it may lead to fading of the ink. Try to wear full sleeve shirts (preferably cotton) etc and if it cannot be covered by our dress, cover it with a light cotton handkerchief.
    – cover it with a thick layer of Vaseline or tattoo wax while bathing to protect from water.
    – Keep it moisturized by applying Vaseline or tattoo wax throughout the day for first week and later using a mild moisturizer like baby lotion. This will also help in reducing the itching.
Both, me and hubby followed these points and our tattoos are as good as new. πŸ˜€
    Hope it helps. πŸ™‚

  9. I got a tattoo last month representing my dog’s name. It took me a month to design it and I love it!
I would like to suggest one thing. Try getting a tattoo done in your own city because during the healing and scabbing process, some areas may fade a little and usually artists give one free touchup. I am going for mine next week.
Always use sunscreen to prevent your tattoo from fading. Tattoos do lighten after some years and protection from sun helps against it. It is up on my blog if anyone wants to see mine… πŸ˜€
