What is a kabuki brush?
Traditionally, kabuki brushes are round, large and fluffy. While nowadays they come in a number of shapes, the primary goal of such brushes remains the same – to create a flawless, airbrushed, poreless and creaseless makeup look. These brushes are quite dense and help in blending for a soft and velvety finish.
Origin of ‘kabuki’
The brushes derive their name from the traditional Japanese performing arts or Kabuki theatres, which date back to the fifteenth century. Large and dense brushes were used to apply makeup seamlessly on the faces of the performers. Using these brushes even for elaborate makeup rituals gave a flawless finish, and hence these brushes came to be known as Kabuki brushes.
Modern kabuki brushes
Today these kabuki brushes come in a variety of shapes, like rounded, dome-shaped, angled and flat. In fact, there are various types of kabuki to cater to every makeup need. They are indeed some of the must-have brushes for your makeup routine.
Flat kabuki brush

Rounded kabuki brush

Try to go for synthetic brushes as animal hair brushes contain pores which absorb makeup, making them unhygienic in the long run.
Also, wooden handled kabuki brushes are more comfortable to use as compared to plastic or metal body. Also, they look immensely classy! The handles of kabuki brushes are mostly short and stubby, and always shorter and fuller than your regular makeup brushes. Make sure you can grip it right during application.
Caring for your brushes
To make the brushes last longer and get rid of bacteria, clean your kabuki brushes well. Use a suitable brush cleanser to give your brushes new life. Do not use harsh detergents or drying shampoos which can damage bristle quality.
