Almay Smart Shade Butter Kiss Lipstick – Red-Light/Medium Review

Hello everyone,

This is my second lip product from Almay.

Almay Smart Shade Butter Kiss Lipstick - Red-Light/Medium

Whatever their name be, they are essentially lip butters and I love lip butters because:

  • They feel so buttery and smooth on the lips.
  • Pigmentation is just right.
  • They are long lasting.
  • The shine is very natural and pretty.
  • Feels very light on the lips.

I have used Revlon lip butters in the past and have loved them – my favorite shade is Pink Truffle, but I wanted to try other brands and wanted to try Maybelline Color Whispers too, but unfortunately they were out of stock in all the local drug stores and I have given up on them. I had a chance encounter with these Almay lip butters which apparently have good reviews online and look like Revlon lip butters.

My Take on Almay Smart Shade Butter Kiss Lipstick – Red-Light/Medium:

I have been meaning to buy more lipsticks from this brand, but I kept procrastinating it for no apparent reason; however last week, I bought two new shades from this range and it was fun wearing them with different looks.

Packaging:  It looks like Revlon lip butter except that the cap has a smooth finish rather than engraved diamond finish. The cap has a snug fit and does not open while I keep it in purse or pocket.

Texture:  It is super creamy and buttery in texture; however, since it is so buttery, a large quantity gets consumed in a single swatch and regular usage will deplete the product fast. It glides on easily and I won’t recommend a thick layer of lip balm underneath as it makes the entire process cumbersome. A sparingly applied lip balm should suffice.

Color:  Light shade of red which does not cover my pigmented lips, but gives a natural look and looks like I am wearing a pigmented lip balm.

Pigmentation:  Appreciable pigmentation, allows the product to set for a few seconds and then it sets beautifully into a pretty pout. It stays put till the end of the day and mostly survives a big meal as well, one needs minor touch ups to restore the pretty pout. It is nice but not as nice as the last shade “Nude Beige” that I had reviewed earlier because it has better pigmentation and looked prettier; the shade in this post is very sheer and looks like a lip balm.

Shimmer and Shine:  It has a creamy shine which looks natural and is perfect for office wear.

Staying Power:  Long wear time under ideal condition, but otherwise, it needs regular touch ups between meals and such.

Fragrance:  The product has no fragrance which I personally like.

This shade is very pretty and versatile. It is a red shade but can be worn by all types of skin tones, on all sorts of occasions, because it is very sheer and looks subtle. I like how they have classified shades as per skin tone – there are colors for fair, medium and dark skin and the last two genres are perfect for Indian skin tone. They are very smooth but stay put between meals; I had to touch it only once throughout the day and it didn’t leave a stain behind. It feels very light and is easy to remove with any makeup remover.

Would I Repurchase Almay Smart Shade Butter Kiss Lipstick – Red-Light/Medium?
Not this particular shade because it is way too sheer for my dark lips, but I recommend it to all those who have even and light tone skins. I would love to buy more colors from this range.
