Almay Smart Shade Butter Kiss Lipstick – Red Medium Review

I am in love with these Almay lipsticks because they are so buttery smooth, affordable, and feel so light and smooth on the lips. I have used Revlon, Maybelline and L’Oreal lip butters in the past and have loved them all, but I wanted to try other brands and started out with these Almay lip butters, and I haven’t stopped at just one shade! This is my fifth shade and it’s evident how much I love these lip colors.

My Take on Almay Smart Shade Butter Kiss Lipstick – Red Medium:

This is my fifth lipstick from this range and loved it more than the last shade I had reviewed, which was a bit too dark and maroon-ish and was not as red as I had expected. This shade is a medium berry-toned color and looks very pretty on my skin tone.  Also, I had never used a shade like this before because I always felt berry shades wouldn’t suit me well.

Packaging:  It looks like Revlon lip butter except that the cap has a smooth finish rather than the engraved diamond finish that the former has. The cap has a snug fit and does not open while I keep it in purse or in my pocket. The aluminum case which holds the stub is in the color of the shade which makes identification easier.

Texture:  It is super creamy and buttery in texture; however, since it is so buttery, a large amount gets used up in a single swatch and regular usage will deplete the product fast. It glides on easily and I won’t recommend a thick layer of lip balm underneath as it makes the entire process cumbersome. A sparingly applied lip balm should suffice.

Color:  A berry color with pink undertones, it has a cream shine.

Pigmentation:  Not too pigmented, but that is the beauty of this product since it suits my dark lips well, especially without a lip liner underneath.  This is the only lipstick that complements my dark lips. These lip butters are not high on pigmentation, they do not claim that either, but still, look natural and effortless on my lips.

Shimmer and Shine:  It has a creamy shine which looks natural and is perfect for office wear and day looks.

Fragrance:  The product has no fragrance which I personally like.

Staying Power:  Stays put as long as I don’t eat a big meal, but with drinks and snacks it performs well.  Since it is so creamy, it is only logical to do touch ups in between.

This shade is berry in color and can be easily worn with any look, any time of the day. It looks pretty on all types of skin tones, especially dusky tones and goes with all sorts of dresses. I like how they have classified shades as per skin tone – there are colors for fair, medium and dark skin and the last two genres are perfect for Indian skin tones. They are very smooth, but stay put between meals; I had to touch it only once throughout the day and it didn’t leave a stain behind. It feels very light and is easy to remove with any makeup remover.

• Quantity is not that appreciable.
• Large quantity gets consumed in one swatch.
• Needs touch ups between meals.

Would I Repurchase Almay Smart Shade Butter Kiss Lipstick – Red Medium?

Yes and would try out other shades as well. I recommend it to all those who shy away from some shades that they feel wont suit them well because this range has something for everyone.
