Exfoliation is an important part of any beauty routine, but physical exfoliants used in most scrubs are not very effective and often lead to open pores and torn skin. On the other hand, chemical exfoliants are far more effective and help with a lot of skin concerns like dullness, marks, blackheads etc. and that is why the Alpha-h mask caught my attention. It is is a glycolic acid-based mask. Alpha-H is widely acclaimed for its AHA-based products. To know more about the product and how well it fared, read on:
Ingredients and Product Claims:
The mask comes in an opaque white tube. The tube and cap are of good quality but since the colour of the packaging is white, it tends to get dirty over time. The nozzle isn’t too big and dispenses just the right amount of product. All in all, it’s a decent packaging.
My Experience with Alpha H Liquid Gold Smoothing and Perfecting Mask with Lavender:
Before I tell you about the mask, let me tell you something about chemical exfoliants. There are basically two categories of chemical exfoliants – alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA) and beta hydroxyl acid (BHA). The former i.e., AHA is a water-soluble one and works on the top layer of the skin by removing dead skin and revealing the newer skin cells, thus making you look radiant and fresh. BHA is fat soluble and thus penetrates inside the skin and helps with stubborn marks and acne. Coming back to AHA, there are various acids is the AHA category and glycolic acid is the most effective of them all. The alpha-H liquid gold mask contains almost 15% glycolic acid which is a really good concentration and is very effective.
This mask works like a charm. Since the concentration is very high, it has to be used only once a week in the night as glycolic acid makes skin vulnerable to sun damage. The mask is very, very effective. It leaves the skin feeling radiant, bright, and smooth and reduces the appearance of pores. Also, although it gives instant results, they are not short lived and last for 3-4 days at least. But it is to be kept in mind that it is very important to use good sun protection every day once you start using such chemical exfoliants especially AHAs because your skin becomes highly susceptible to sun damage because of the exfoliation. So, using a good sunscreen is a must.
The consistency of this mask is thick and creamy and it spreads quite well. When using the mask, make sure you read the instructions well and follow them to the T. An unusual thing about the mask is that when you apply it, you feel a mild tingling sensation, but do not panic as it is normal and this actually means that the product is working. But then it shouldn’t be used on an open wound, fresh pimples or acne.
Now that you have read my experience, let me sum up the pros and cons for you:

Would I Repurchase Alpha H Liquid Gold Smoothing and Perfecting Mask with Lavender?
Yes of course, I don’t think there is any substitute to this mask in the market (at least in India) and it works great. This is one of those products that really work and I am definitely going to restock it.
I definitely love this mask. It is a non-fussy product that does what it claims. The mask is especially useful for those days when your skin feels really dull and nothing else will work. It is an instant pick-me-up plus a product that gives you lasting result. And this combination is rare to find. A keeper in my opinion!
