When I got my hair cut into a bob, I realized that I had to style it more often than I used to style my long hair, but we all know how hot styling tools damage hair leading to rough hair, split ends, breakage, frizz etc. Thus I began looking for a good thermal protectant that could provide protection against high temperatures of these styling tools as well as the sun. This is how I got my hands on bamboo smooth anti-breakage thermal protectant spray. To know how well it worked, you will have to read the full review. So let’s get started.

Ingredients and Product Description:

Packaging:

The protectant comes in a brown translucent bottle with a pump dispenser. The pump dispenser works really well and doesn’t dispense too much of the product and thus doesn’t lead to any wastage. The design of the bottle is very interesting as it is shaped like a bamboo shoot (talk about taking the brand name too seriously, eh!). I was particularly impressed by the quality of the bottle: sturdy and sleek.

My Experience with Alterna Bamboo Smooth Anti-Breakage Thermal Protectant Spray:

This product is a dual purpose product. It acts like a heat protectant as well as a smoothening serum. As a heat protectant, it’s quite good as it protects hair up to a temperature of 220 degree Celsius which is more than adequate for my purpose. As a serum, it works fine too and makes hair frizz free and easier to comb, but however, it doesn’t make hair shiny or smooth like other serums. But this wasn’t a cause of concern as I had bought it for the purpose of protecting my hair, which it does quite well as I haven’t noticed any dryness or breakage even after using hot styling tools.

There is a catch here, the label says that it is a spray, but well it is not, it’s a cream and so it is best used on damp hair as it wouldn’t spread so well on dry hair. So if you are someone who is looking for a spray or something that can be used on dry hair as well, then this is not the heat protectant for you.

Apart from that, the protectant works fine. I not only use it when I am using hot tools, but also when I am going to be outdoors in the sun for a long period so as to protect my hair from damage by the sun. The added bonus is that it is free of parabens, sodium chloride, and a bunch of other chemicals and is not tested on animals.  So, let me quickly run you through the pros and cons.

• Works great as a heat protectant, helps in preventing damage from hot styling tools and the sun.
• Protects hair up to 220 degree Celsius.
• Since it is a cream, you do not waste too much of product (as compared to a spray).
• Works as a serum too.
• Sleek packaging, the pump dispenser makes sure that you do not waste too much of product.
• Free of parabens, sodium chloride, and a bunch of other chemicals.
• Not tested on animals.

Cons of Alterna Bamboo Smooth Anti-Breakage Thermal Protectant Spray:

• Claims to be a spray but it is a cream.
• Doesn’t spread well on dry hair.
• Availability in India (only in Sephora stores).

Would I Repurchase Alterna Bamboo Smooth Anti-Breakage Thermal Protectant Spray?

I don’t know. Not because the product is bad, but it isn’t something extraordinary. So by the time I run out of it and I find something better, I wouldn’t repurchase it. Otherwise I might 🙂
