The thing I struggle about the most, with my hair, is flat and limp hair which lacks volume. On my recent Sephora haul, I picked up some hair care products, and this review will be on the Alterna Hair Care Bamboo Volume Weightless Whipped Mousse.

My Experience with Alterna Haircare Bamboo Volume Weightless Whipped Mousse:

I would like to start with a little description about my hair type. I have normal- dry hair which is very silky, fine and thin, lacks volume, and is prone to falling flat. My hair is not damaged, but it is frizzy. It is slightly wavy hence my signature hairstyle is to flat iron it as curls don’t stay put in my hair.

Packaging: This mousse comes in a can with a nozzle similar to that of whipped crème. You press the button down and it releases a whipped mousse.

Texture/Application/Results: The mousse is very lightweight, airy and whipped. I spread an egg-sized amount on my mid-back length damp hair after shower and then proceed to blow dry and style my hair. I notice immediate volume after blow drying. My hair feels so lightweight, bouncy with tons and tons of volume, which is rare. This mousse did make my hair very voluminous without feeling sticky. My hair feels very soft and natural without feeling like I have tons of styling products in it.

This mousse is not hydrating or moisturizing on my normal-dry hair. It does nothing to control frizz, hence I do have to follow up with a hair serum or a drop of hair oil to address the issue. It does not give me shiny smooth hair, but it does not take away the existing natural softness of my hair.

I have also styled my hair in light beachy curls which I rarely do for my fine hair, but due to the volume this product gives me, the curls pair up beautifully, but alas, though this product claims to deliver medium hold, I saw my curls loosening and turning back to regular straight nature within 4 hours. The hold is very light and you will need to follow up with a hairs pray if you want your style to stick till the end of the day. This product does not make my hair greasy even when it gets to the second-third day till my next shampoo.

Fragrance: This mousse has a very pleasant herbal bamboo scent, it’s not too overpowering.

Overall, this is a good product (only) for delivering volume to your hair, which is something that can be achieved with other inexpensive brands as well. For me, it would have been worth the money if it also controlled frizz and had good hold, which it doesn’t. Also, I wouldn’t recommend this to women with damaged and brittle hair as it did not provide any hint of moisture or shine to the hair.
