My Experience with Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit :

2014 was the year of contouring and it looks like the trend isn’t going to die anytime soon. I must admit I hadn’t always been a huge fan of contouring but that is slowly changing as I try my hands on these amazing contouring products. This review will be on another such amazing contour kit from Anastasia Beverly Hills.

This my first product from the Anastasia brand who is mostly famous for her Brow products (many of which are reviewed here and here and here on IMBB) but she is slowly expanding her makeup line with eye shadows and will soon be launching liquid lipstick line.

Packaging:

This contour kit comes with 6 shade house in sleek strong cardboard kit which is very lightweight. I do not like the fact that there is no mirror which would have been a good addition in making this kit travel-friendly. The shade pans are quite generous in size at 0.11oz each. All of these shades pop out if you ever run out of one or want to replace it with another color, the whole range of which is sold on Anastasia’s website.

Shades:

This kit comes in 2 shade Light-Medium & Medium-Tan. I have the light-medium version which contains the shades Java, Vanilla, Fawn, Havana, Banana, Sand.

The top row is all light shades which can be used as setting powders or highlights and the bottom row is all dark contour and bronzing shades.

Vanilla: This is light neutral beige shade which has a matte finish. I love using this as an all over face powder to set my makeup. This can also be used as an under eye setting powder or as matte brow bone highlight.

Banana: A matte finish light yellow shade. I prefer using this instead of Vanilla as my under eye setting powder. The yellow hue gives a brightening effect as it counteracts the darkness of my under eye.

Sand: This is a shimmery highlight shade. The shade is almost similar to vanilla above but a little bit pinker and with some shimmer. This highlight is not too flashy or shimmery instead the effect it gives is very beautiful in a subtle way. The glow is low and very natural looking.

Java: A deep matte brown shade with a warm undertone which can be used as contour or to bronze up face.

Fawn: A matte taupe shade with hint of grey undertone. I find grey based shades like this are perfect to contour with instead of of brown based as the grey mimic the true effect that shadows will give. I love using this shade as contour and layer this with Java to give me perfectly sculpted cheekbones. This shade is a close dupe( maybe a little bit on the warmer tone) to the KevynAucoin sculpting powder (reviewed here) .

Havana: This a deep matte brown shade with a strong reddish undertone. I cannot use this particular shade for my face but it can always double as a good eye shadow crease shade just like the Java and Fawn to give me that perfect everyday eye look. This shade will work well for dusky skintone.

These powders are soft but they aren’t really creamy or buttery. The powder texture helps apply and blend it into the skin easily without patchiness. They are pigmented but not so much that you can go overboard with one swipe, which is a good thing. The color needs to be layered to build up the intensity to which you are comfortable with hence this palette is perfect for beginners who are just getting the hang of contouring. I love using my Wayne goss brush 02 (review here) with this product.

Even though I love using the lighter shade as setting powder I find they have little to no oil control abilities. My face/ under eye does tend to get shiny looking within a few hours of wear which has me running to the restroom to do touch ups.

Overall, this is the perfectly though out palette which gives you a range of colors to work with. All colors can double as face powders or eye shadows. The price is reasonable for the generous size of product. The texture of the powder is smooth and bendable.

If you are someone who loves to do regular contouring in your makeup routine or a makeup artist who works with variety of skin tone or even just a beginner who is just trying to get better at contouring and unsure of which shades will work for you this kit will work for all of you. I will recommend.

Pros of Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit :

• Variety of shades
• Travel-friendly sleek packaging
• Some shades which can work as all over face or under eye setting powder, a highlight and 3 contour shades.
• Will flatter spectrum of skin tones.
• Smooth and easily bendable powders.
• You cannot go overboard with these shadows with one stroke. The color needs to be built up.

Cons of Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit:

• Palette is missing a mirror.
• The powders do not have good oil-control abilities to be used as face setting powders.
