Anastasia Beverly Hills Eye Shadow Singles Dusty Rose Review

Hello ladies,

Honestly, until some time ago, I wasn’t even aware of the existence of this brand. And then suddenly, on a forum, when asked which brow product people preferred to use, three out of four people said Anastasia Beverly Hills. So, I too went ahead and picked up a couple of its brow products, namely Dipbrow Pomade and Brow Definer Triangular Brow Pencil, and reviewed them on IMBB. Though ABH had a whole lineup of products, for me it was still a brow brand. And then last year, everything changed. What happened? ABH launched the Modern Renaissance Eye Shadow Palette . Not only did I become a huge fan, the brand also pretty much established itself as a ‘makeup’ brand to reckon with. Then, came the limited edition Mario Palette. ABH definitely upped the eyeshadow game and had its competition gaping. I was curious to see if these singles were as good as the eyeshadows in the Modern Renaissance palette. So, I went ahead and bought a few of these shadows a couple of months ago. I have been playing with these ever since and will be reviewing them now. So, let us get on with it!

Dusty Rose Eyeshadow

My Experience with Anastasia Beverly Hills Eye Shadow Singles Dusty Rose:

Shade:
The shade Dusty Rose is aptly named. It is a medium mauve pink with a dusty undertone and a matte finish. It kind of reminds me of MAC Haux from my MAC Eye Shadow X 9 Burgundy Times Nine. I was anyway contemplating picking Haux as a single for transition shade for more cool toned looks. I picked this instead. The shade is dusty so can make warm skin look tired or sallow. You need to pair it correctly to make the shade work well.

On my medium NC30 skin tone, it shows up easily. It works well as a transition shade. Built up, it can also be used all over the lid. In the EOTDs that I have shared, I have used this shade in the crease transitioning.

Texture:
The texture is quite soft, smooth, finely milled but extremely powdery. It kicks up a lot of powder each time the brush touches the pan. This tends to create fall out – unless you tap the excess off before each application. Also, there is wastage of product. As far as the application is concerned, it was easy to apply and blends smoothly.

Pigmentation:
The shade has decent pigmentation – but isn’t on par with the shades in the Modern Renaissance palette. It applies semi-opaque but can be built up. For the shade to really show up well – as in true to the pan – it would need a primer underneath.

Staying Power:
I apply my eyeshadows over a prime because my eyelids are way too oily. The shade gives about 7-7.5 hours of wear time before showing signs of fading. This shade does not crease on me.

Cons of Anastasia Beverly Hills Eye Shadow Singles Dusty Rose:

• Kicks up a lot of powder
• Creates a lot of fall out unless excess is tapped off the brush each time

IMBB Rating: 3/5
The shade isn’t the easiest to work with because of the dustiness of the colour and the powdery texture. But, I feel it provides an interesting variation for crease/transition shade than the rusty browns which are doing the rounds currently. It is not a must-have shade and seems to perform average. It definitely did not have the same impact as the matte shades from the ABH Modern Renaissance Palette. The formula is definitely different.

  1. love the color kulpreet! and those eyeshadows… such a gorgeous set of neutrals. I cant wait to see all the reviews. I have 3-4 of them. I think they really need to see some love from me yet. 😛 Love their brow pencil. I repurchased mine.. a rare case in my case. 🙂 You look gorg!

    1. Thanks Rati! I do find myself reaching for this shade very often – especially when I’m trying to avoid putting a rusty orange in my crease!! Yes, their brow pencils are good – both texture and colour. I generally like MAC Spike too but this time it seems to be making my life miserable – i think i received old stock coz it keeps breaking overtime i try to use it!! So frustrating!
