Who isn’t a fan of bright liquid lipsticks??? Some of us may shy away from trying them, but secretly, we all love a good bright shade, right? Today, I will be reviewing Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid lipstick in the shade “Rio” This shade caught my eye while I was scrolling through their insta feed. I was planning to buy a neon pink lipstick for quite some time and had MAC Pink Pigeon or MAC Candy Yum Yum in my mind. On photographs etc., I found Rio to be of the same tone, so I thought of expanding my horizon beyond MAC. (I am an ardent MAC fan when it comes to lipsticks). Let’s see if this shade fared well on me or not.

My Experience with Anastasia Beverly Hills Rio Liquid Lipstick:
Let’s talk about the shade first. The shade as described on the website is a “cool-toned hot pink.” This is one of the shades that would instantly brighten up the face. A BB or CC cream, liner or kohl, with ABH Rio and you will easily steal the show at any gathering. This even makes your teeth look brighter.
It comes in a classic ABH packaging, transparent glass-like tube with a soft doe-applicator and a shiny cap. Easy to pick from the stash since color can be seen from outside the tube.
To be honest, I so wanted a hot pink, but when I held it in my hand, I was hesitant to use. I am sure there must be many ladies who think they cannot pull off a bright color, it won’t suit them or any other reservations. I have my friends who tell me the same when I coax them to try brighter colors. I must tell you that it is all about going ahead with it… just once and you will see the difference the way you look. It is one of those colors which enhances your personality as well. Likewise, I went ahead with it and kept checking myself in all the mirrors I came across. With every passing glance, I fell in love with this lipstick shade more and more.
The texture is mousse like, which means very light and kind of fluffy. It spreads on the lips smoothly and one swipe gives complete color payoff. It is glossy first and then dries to matte finish, just like any other liquid matte lipstick. It feels very light on lips, almost like nothing. It is a bit drying on the lips, but well, that’s a baggage which comes with matte formula. It stays all day without fading, smudging, bleeding or feathering. You may want to re-apply at the center of your lips after a really heavy or gr easy meal. It does not transfer to cups and glasses which is great. (don’t we all hate that lipstick ring on glasses ..uhhggggg)
Here, I am wearing Rio in this picture and this is an after-party picture where I have had a complete meal and a couple of drinks.
I had asked my sister to buy this for me and her first reaction was “this is too bright .. I can never pull it off”. I begged her to try but she didn’t budge from her opinion. Somehow, she ended up ordering 2 pieces of same product and kept one for herself. Let me tell you, she is not at all a lipstick person, but now she loves to flaunt her Rio pics on her instagram and is glad for the goof up!
Pros of Anastasia Beverly Hills Rio Liquid Lipstick:
- Very lightweight.
- Soft, wearable, mousse-like texture.
- No smudging or feathering.
- Does not accentuate fine lines.
- Survives a heavy, greasy meal.
Cons of Anastasia Beverly Hills Rio Liquid Lipstick:
- Availability in India.
- Too bright for some (but go ahead girls .. explore!)
- A bit drying, exfoliating and prepping lips prior to application would be helpful (like a balm overnight).
Summing up, this is a great party/girls night-out kinda lipstick to own. Go ahead girls ..it’s time to explore a brighter side of life! Paint the town RIO!
