Archies Gals Eau De Parfum Review

Even though real cards are losing out to e-cards and text messages in recent years, Archies still is a big name in the gift items business. Come Christmas or even rakhi, Archies outlets are always jam-packed. Archies also manufactures perfumes and deodorants that are targeted for school and college students. They are inexpensive and the packaging is unlike any classy expensive perfume. It’s very young and teeny-boppery. There are perfumes and deodorants for ‘Guys’ and ‘Gals’, much like Archie comics (which are NOT related with the gift company). As I was surfing through the Archies website, www.archiesonline.com, I also discovered other perfumes. The website has pretty cool stuff too and I am looking forward to buying some stuff from there.

I got this perfume as a gift about a year ago and I don’t really use it often because I am not really a perfume person.

My Experience with Archies Gals Eau De Parfum:

I recently watched the film Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, which is based on a book, and really liked the concept. Most perfume reviewers (not the lovely ones in IMBB) talk about how a perfume makes them feel, without ever going into how the perfume has been made. What I learnt from the movie is that a perfume is made of 12 fragrances. This perfume is made of 9, but there are other ingredients as well.

First Impression:

It is not a gorgeous smell, but it is not entirely repulsive. Expensive perfumes are not actually ridiculously priced to cheat customers. They are just made of expensive ingredients. Did you know that 1 ounce of rose oil requires 10,000 roses? There’s a reason for them to be expensive. This perfume does smell cheap compared to perfumes from high-end labels, but I love it all the same because it was a gift. However, I have to say that it is not very strong. Even if I spray it a lot, another person cannot get the smell. My deos are usually stronger. I had used the Archies Gals deo a long time ago and yes, it was much stronger than this perfume.

If I really analyse the smell, there is quite a citrus flavor to it. I am more of a sweet sugary person when it comes to smell, so maybe that’s why I don’t like this smell so much. After the citrus smell hits you, there is even a saltiness to it. The last effect is a faint, sweet, flowery fragrance that is soon gone. The citrus smell dominates.

Linalool is supposed to be “floral, with a touch of spiciness.” Limonene comes from the rind of lemon, which accounts for its citrus smell. Lyral is “reminiscent of Lily of the valley,” which is my favorite flower, though I hardly can smell it in this perfume. Eugenol is derived from cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, basil and bay leaf and yes, there is a feeling of their presence in this perfume. I love these smells in my food, but don’t really want to smell like it myself. Citral again is found in citrus fruits while citronellol is strangely enough, found in roses. However, because of the high content of citrus, the other smells don’t come out so well, especially the lily and rose.

Benzyl benzoate is used for stabilising this mixture of smells while the rest of the ingredients also try to keep the mixture fixed and do not contribute to the smell as such.

Overall, this perfume is not for those who like sweet smells (like me), but it is a quality product at a very affordable price.

  1. Most of archies perfumes are made out of synthetic oils as compared to aroma oils used by expensive perfume companies eg Chanel, Dior, Burberry etc… they also tend to break out skin… 🙄
