Ask IMBB Gang: Makeup for Oily Skin

Ask IMBB Gang

P asks

I am very fond of makeup and specially eye makeup but every time I get it done from an expert or myself I end up looking like a dark oil cake.

I have an extremely oily face and wheatish complexion.

If you can please suggest a right foundation and other products suitable for my skin type. Also I read one of your blogs in which you stated the procedure for applying foundation-moisturizing+ creamy foundation followed by some other foundation and lose power .I actually wasn’t sure if it would be ok for my skin type.PleaseΒ  let me know what is good for me.

  1. Have been doing a lot of research on oily skin products from past two days. You must start using a primer that will help your foundation last longer and would control shine on your face.

One is YSL Matt Touch : http://www.yslbeautyus.com/make-up-complexion-foundation/c38_40_44/p147/matt-touch-primer/product_info.html

This one came from my makeup classes. It’s a magical products and have seen it working.

Other is MAC Prep + Prime Oil Free SPF 50 http://www.maccosmetics.com/product/spp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CAT174&PRODUCT_ID=1544

Both these products are expensive but would control the shine on your face and would make your makeup last longer. Also choose the foundations that are oil free or water based. MAC Studio Fix Fluid, MAC Select SPF 15 can be used for oily skin.

You may also use Pond’s oil free moisturizer as a primer but that’s something that yoou want to use on regular basis and you don’t mind doing touchups during the day.

Cream foundations are not something you should completely avoid. Use primer + foundation or oil free moisturizer + foundation. Definitely carry a compact and oil blotting sheets/ tissues so that you can take care of the excess oils on your face.

    Hope that helps. πŸ™‚

  2. YSL primer – yes yes, my makeup consultant has already recommended that for me  I think though maybe using a proper base for your eye makeup might solve your problem a bit…not that I have tried any of these, but the experts here seem to love the MAC paint pots (hope I got the name right). What does Mrun use for her eyes?? Maybelline?

That tutorial you saw with two different foundation one after the other…hehheee..I think that was one of Rati’s tutorials πŸ˜€ It was actually meant to be a two-part tutorial..one for applying a creamy foundation and then setting it and the second part was for applying another foundation and a loose powder. From what I understood, she was too lazy πŸ˜€ to break it up into two separate parts or take off her earlier foundation and then start over again for her second foundation tutorial, so she just did it all one after another…confusing na…I know πŸ™

      1. Oh really…and who was :jump: :jump: :jump:   with those other wicked girls claiming I am preggers…all cos I supported you in your quest for knowledge

  5. Instead of try liquid based foundation you can go for a powder based foundation. Try MAc’s Mineralize SPF15/Loose, it really works much better and give a flawless finish to oliy/combination skin… πŸ™‚

  6. Hey P…
Don’t know about makeup products for oily skin much….

But your face will feel oil-fee if you rub an ice-cube over your face just after cleansing and before applying any makeup..

    Hope it helps.. πŸ˜€

  7. Hey!

Thaks Rati and Rashmi for the wonderful tips!!

Since YSL Matt Touch & MAC Prep + Prime Oil Free SPF 50 r exp which of the 2 u would recommend more ?:-)
I think you have pretty much clarified by doubts…i m going to do some shopping soon πŸ˜€

    1. Prachi my vote would go for YSL because I have seen it working. But there are good reviews for MAC prep + prime as well. I would say try mac first since you would also get an idea how primers work for you. πŸ™‚ Also don’t forget to try it at the store before purchasing.

  8. Hi….I too have (very) oily skin. I use a powder foundation after applying an oil-free moisturiser. You can use a powder foundation on your eyelids as a base too. Stay away from cream eye shadows and cream based foundations. If you must use liquid foundations, use only oil-free ones. Chambor has a good oil free foundation, and for powder foundations, use Ponds powder foundation, or recently, Avon has introduced a really good coverage powder foundation. Oriflame also has a matt control liquid foundation, which I use sometimes. Powder foundations give the coverage of a liquid foundation, but without the greasiness. You are lucky, because of your oily skin, you will not get wrinkles early. Use a good cleanser too before applying your make up. If you have any cream based foundations, keep them for use during winter. Hope this helps. Oh, yes, as Rati, said, keep facial oil blotters handy to wipe off the oil during the day. These will not alter the look of your make up. If you use tissue paper, your make up will get wiped off as well along with the oil!

    1. Forgot to mention, another great powder foundation is from MAC – Studio Fix Powder + Foundation. They are available in many shades.
