Right after the “BB Cream” craze, what’s doing the rounds in beauty circles is “Bamboo Charcoal,” that’s what I hear everywhere now. Everybody’s talking about how bamboo charcoal is sucking away impurities, etc., and would I not try it for myself, I would definitely – I didn’t find the Aroma Magic Activated Bamboo Charcoal anywhere, but found this one – Audrey’s Bamboo Charcoal Face Cleansing Sponge. First, a little info about the product:
This facial sponge has been specially designed to remove oil, dirt, and makeup from your skin pores without damaging the skin cells. The dark grey colour of the sponge is the original colour of the bamboo charcoal powder which has been injected into the sponge cells using special technology. During facial cleansing, the bamboo charcoal powder gradually releases infra red rays which improves blood circulation giving your skin a natural glow and making it look more soft and supple. Besides bamboo fiber is widely known for its natural anti-bacterial properties and also aids in its effective makeup removal and is suited for all skin types.
How To Use:
1. Wet sponge with water. Add cleanser to the sponge until foaming.
2. Softly massage the face and neck in circular movements to clean the face.
3. Air dry after use. For best results, replace the sponge every month.
My Take on Audrey’s Bamboo Charcoal Face Cleansing Sponge:
I have used the Faces Cleansing Sponge before and I expected this to be on the same lines; however, this is very different from that particular sponge. Faces sponge was of a different material/fiber and texture, but this one is exactly like a sponge. Its black in color with large pores that soaks in liquid well.
The sponge’s texture is not coarse or gritty. The sponge is anti-bacterial, hypoallergenic and made of non-latex material. The instructions describe to wet it first and use it along with a cleansing product. I used TBS Cleansing Facial Foam. The sponge exfoliates very mildly and leaves the skin very dry after that. I had dry patches near my mouth area. I didn’t like this one much as the Faces sponge. This one does not exfoliate properly and is exactly similar to using a normal sponge. They say it is infused with bamboo charcoal which releases infra red rays (really!), but somehow all that jazz does not work on me. I would any day pick Faces sponge over this one. Also, this sponge needs to be replaced monthly, so its going to be a monthly affair, not done!
Summing up the pros and cons of this product:
Pros of Audrey’s Bamboo Charcoal Face Cleansing Sponge:
- Made of anti-bacterial, hypoallergenic, and non-latex material.
- Soaks up liquid nicely.
- Not coarse or gritty.
- Does not irritate the skin.
Cons of Audrey’s Bamboo Charcoal Face Cleansing Sponge:
- Leaves dry patches on the skin.
- They say charcoal bamboo powder is injected into the sponge which releases infra red rays ( 😛 *scared*).
- Does not do much exfoliation.
- Has to be replaced monthly.
