Skin type: Combination, oily around the T-zone

I recently reviewed the Simple Moisturizing Face Wash, which I have been using for my CTM routine. I mentioned that I was looking for a cleanser which does ‘more’ for my combination skin, and thus, I picked up this Aveda Botanical Kinetics Purifying Gel Cleanser. The gel variant of this cleanser is meant for normal to oily skin. Estee Lauder is the mother brand of Aveda and this company makes hair and skin care products derived from natural ingredients. So, let’s see how this cleanser fared out for me.

Usage:
In the a.m. and p.m., apply a small amount to face and throat, rinse with warm water and pat dry.
My Experience with Aveda Botanical Kinetics Purifying Gel Cleanser:
Packaging:
If you order this product online from the official website, it will come wrapped in scented papers. I loved this little perk which came with this product. The gel cleanser comes enclosed in a hard plastic bottle. It is translucent olive green in colour, so you can see how much product is left. There is a pump dispenser which can be locked, so this ensures that the product doesn’t spill. The dispenser is also made from hard plastic.
The pump dispenses the right amount of product you need for cleaning your face. It’s a small amount and it’s enough product for cleaning your face. Now, the packaging looks durable but the product comes only in two sizes – 150 mL and 500 mL, which makes it not so travel-friendly. So, if you’re travelling, you will need to transfer the product in small travel-sized tubes.
Consistency and Cleansing Power:
The product is called a gel cleanser but its consistency is watery. It needs to be massaged on a wet face, and when I do that, it spreads easily. It doesn’t lather up like a soap but forms a white film which cleans your face. This soap-free kind of formulation works great for combination and oily skin types.
The cleanser has a very strong fragrance, it is herbal kind of smell. This fragrance is their own creation of ‘pure-fume’ which is made from mandarin, grapefruit, geranium and plant essences. It can be problematic for people with olfactory sensitivity. I could tolerate it and it doesn’t linger afterwards. This product deeply cleanses away all the impurities and oil from your face, without stripping it of its natural oils.
When I rinse away the cleanser, it feels like it leaves a film on the face, but when I pat it dry, there’s no trace of any film. The face looks clearer and it feels smooth after cleaning. I have used multiple cleansers but none of them has made my face feel smooth after cleansing everything thoroughly. I also use this cleanser in the second step of double cleansing to remove any traces of makeup and it works well.
I had some whiteheads and breakouts before using this product. Within just 3 uses, they just dried out and fell off my skin. It’s just incredible, I woke up in the morning and everything was just dried and coming off. With regular usage, my skin is becoming clearer overall. So, this product is clearly giving me the ‘more’ I was expecting out of a cleanser.
Overall:
I am really happy with this product, the fragrance is not problematic for me. It cleanses my combination skin perfectly without stripping of the natural sebum. It leaves the skin smooth and with regular use, it helps with breakouts and whiteheads. Just a word of caution for sensitive skin types, this product contains some strong active ingredients, so try out a sample first before buying it.

Yes, I will recommend it for oily and combination skin. Because it’s expensive, I am unsure about the repurchase part but if you believe in investing in skincare, consider investing in this product.
