My Experience with Aveeno Anti-Itch Concentrated Lotion:
As you know by now that this product is used in special circumstances only; if you are suffering from eczema, itchy rash due to allergy, chicken pox or insect bite. I used it during chicken pox rash. Read on to find if it helps or not.
There are a lot of options of calamine lotions in drugstores which can be used during itchy rash, but I chose this one because it has all the ingredients needed packed in one product. Let me tell you about them one by one:
First is calamine lotion. It is approved in itchy rash because it helps in drying and crusting of rash. It relieves itching and soothes your skin. Even if you scratch, it acts as an external protectant and doesn’t let blisters get burst open.
Second is Pramoxine which is also called pramocaine. It is a local anaesthetic and numbs the skin locally so that you don’t feel the pain;well not too much at least.
Then, another thing which makes this lotion unique is active oat-meal complex. It has been highly recommended during itchy rash. So much so that Aveeno has also a bath product of oatmeal in which you soak yourself and it helps the itching.
The product itself is light pink in color and smells of camphor. It is not at tall runny but easily spreads on to the skin. Anyway, about my experience, I would say that it fared out 50:50 on its claims. It worked as an external barrier all right, and there was the cooling effect like camphor, but I must say, it did not relieve my itching and pain very much, but again, I had a very severe bout of rash. It surely helped in drying out the rash faster and it prevented the bursting of vesicles and super-infection of the rash.
On the downside, it made my skin very dry. Wherever I applied it, my skin got very stretchy and flaky. After I was cured, I followed an extensive routine of exfoliation and heavy moisturisation which gave me my skin’s texture back.
