Avon Sun Smooth UV Gel SPF 20 PA+++ Review

Avon SMOOTH UV GEL SPF 20 PA ++ Sunscreen Gel  – Review

Avon SUN has brought a range of grease free, gel based sunscreen products. This range is more or less suitable for sensitive skin too, and the gel does not turn into a sticky, molten layer under heavy sun exposure also. Avon claims the following benefits of the product –

    • Provides both UVA and UVB protection
    • Absorbs quickly and easily
    • Leaves no greasy after feel
    • Leaves no white residue.

The gel contains soothing aloe vera and witch hazel extracts, which in their own respective ways nourish and improve the skin along with providing sun protection. The odour is mild and neutral that does not linger much after application. Moreover, when the gel gets absorbed, the skin does not appear whitish due to residual depositions. Also, it does not melt or give a sticky sensation in intense heat. However, it is not waterproof and needs to be applied again after about every 4 hours or water exposure.

The SMOOTH UV GEL SPF 20 PA ++ Sun Screen Gel product profile goes like this:
      Manufactured by – Avon
      Marketed by – Avon
      Net quantity – 30 gm
Maximum retail price – Rs 215
Also available – SPF 15 PA++ Broad Spectrum Sun Protection Day block Protective Body Lotion (Rs 215 for 50 gm) and SPF 40 PA+++ High Protection Water Resistant Sun Protection Gel (Rs 249 for 50 gm)

I applied the gel generously before going out in the sun (not on my face, the skin there is too sensitive and too acne prone for a new product to be tested on, especially in the sun)

And this is how my hand looked after four hours of Sun exposure

There is slight overall reddening of the skin, probably from the heat, but there is no uneven pigmentation or any visible ill effects due to the exposure.

The things I liked about the SMOOTH UV GEL SPF 20 PA ++ Sun Screen Gel from Avon are:

      • SPF 20
      • Provides protection from both UVA and UVB
      • Gel based and non greasy
      • Absorbed quickly without leaving any white residue
      • Does not try to double as a perfume – the smell is not overbearing
      • The tube is easy to carry in the purse or hand bag

The things I disliked about the SMOOTH UV GEL SPF 20 PA ++ Sun Screen Gel from Avon are:

      • Not water resistant, unlike its SPF 40 counterpart. Excessive sweating also contributes to its wearing of soon.
      • A bit overpriced, being SPF 20 at Rs 215 for 30 gm.
Being an Avon product, needs to be ordered and obtained through a representative.

Final Verdict: Will use the whole tube, but probably not on my face.

      Overall Rating – :-*  :-*  :-* + .5 out of 5.

      1. I have never been too experimental with my sunscreens. I have only tried Lotus , Biotique and Neutrogena so far. I have to say that I am stuck with Lotus only. Rest two gave me rashes and caused irritation to my skin. :((

Don’t you think SPF 20 is too. I use minimum SPF 30.

Glad this one works for you. 🙂
