Ayur Herbal Skin Toner with Aloe Vera
Toning was not a part of my daily skin care routine until I entered the blogging world. I would like to share a few things that I learnt which could be beneficial to any newbie in this beauty world.
What is a Toner: Toner is an important part of skin care regime. Toners come in the form of lotion or washes & are designed to cleanse the skin by removing dirt & impurities, shrink the pores, and balance the PH level of the skin.
What are the different types of Toners: The different types of Toners are
Skin Bracers or Fresheners – These are the mildest & gentlest toners, they contain virtually no Alcohol (0-10%), water and a humectant (used in cosmetic products for moisturization) such as Glycerine. They are suitable for use on dry, dehydrated, sensitive and normal skins. They may sometimes give a burning sensation to sensitive skin. Eg. Rose water.
Skin Tonics – These are slightly stronger and contain a small quantity of alcohol (up to 20%), water and a humectant ingredient & are suitable for use on normal, combination, and oily skin. Eg. Orange Flower Water.
Astringents – These are the strongest form of toner and contain a high proportion of alcohol (20-60%), antiseptic ingredients, water, and a humectant ingredient. These are commonly recommended for oily skins as they are drying, but the removal of oil from the skin can lead to excess oil production as the skin tries to compensate for this and prevent moisture loss. So to prevent dehydration, astringent should be applied only to problem areas of skin, such as spots. Eg. Witch Hazel
Important things to know before using a toner:
- Remember to choose a toner according to your skin type.
- Wash & pat your skin dry before applying a toner.
- Toner can be applied to entire face using a damn cotton ball or pad using gentle strokes, or it can just be sprayed on to the face if it’s available in a spray bottle, or you could cover gauze with toner & leave it on the face before moisturization.
- Never rub the skin while applying the toner.
- Allow the toner to absorb for a minute or two before applying the moisturizer.
- Make sure you don’t stroke the toner near the delicate eye area.
Some natural products that can be used as toner & that are easily available in the kitchen are Cucumber, Watermelon, Mint, Green Tea, potato, Lemon juice with glycerine & the best of all toners is Rose water.
I feel very lazy 🙁 to make natural toners at home, so in my quest for something very handy I decided to try the Ayur herbal skin Toner with Aloe Vera (my brother uses this often & has no complaints).
What does Ayur claim about the Toner?
Ayur skin toner is a pH balanced herbal preparation suitable for all skin types which
- Contains Aloe Vera, rose water & natural moisturisers.
- Safeguards the skin against acne, atmospheric microbes and harsh effects of the sun-rays.

Experience with the Ayur Toner:
Ayur Toner is very heavily scented pink colored toner. My skin-type is Combination/ Some times sensitive so as soon as I applied this , my cheeks started itching & burning & I panicked & started jumping like somebody attached a Sutli bomb to me. I splashed water on my face few times but the burning sensation was there for a while until I applied raw cucumber (Cucumber & potato are the best handy products that I use for kitchen burns).
But I didn’t give up, I didn’t want the toner to go in trash, so after a few days I tried the same toner on my hands & I didn’t feel any uneasiness! I’m going to continue using the toner on my hands until I finish the bottle.
Will I recommend Ayur Toner? Hell no! Though Ayur claims suitable for all skin types, this absolutely didn’t work for me & I will never ever repurchase this! Period! >:-<
