My Bangles Collection (for Traditional sarees)

I usually don’t wear bangles or bracelets as I feel like some cuffs in my hands 😛 Though I get shouted for being bare handed most of the time, I hardly get those fashionable bangles for myself. On contradiction whenever I wear saree I wear dozens of bangles in my hands. I love to get dressed traditionally as we don’t do it much these days.

It is during my marriage I started collecting bangles, matching my sarees. I make sure I also buy a bangle bag to keep them safely. I have heavy stone bangles, plain metal and glass bangles as well. I mix the stone with metal or stone with glass bangles to create a colour co-ordination between the bangles and the saree I am wearing. For example if the saree is green and the border is black I use a dozen of green metal/glass bangles and a pair or two of the stone bangles for highlight.

You can see all 4 bangle bags I have. Other than this I have a single row bangle bag which can be used during travel.

To have a closer look few more pictures for you. The lavender coloured one is the one I bought for my engagement and the set was already made [mixing stone and metal bangles] and it was priced at Rs.1500 !!!! This one is my favourite too . 🙂

Since the stone bangles are freaking expensive I don’t get more than 2-4 each time and I’ll get metal bangles which will cost Rs.70-Rs.100 per dozen. I mix these to get a pretty set.

Metal Bangles

Since I have heaps of metal bangles I need 2 bags for these. This is quite messy as I was at my mom’s place after my baby showers. I’ll be rearranging them today . 🙂

Glass Bangles

I don’t have many glass bangles as it breaks very easily. The ones I have were bought when I was in school !!!! In certain colours I have just 10-11 left out of 12 . 🙁

  26. Awesome collection Aarthi. Can you suggest few more places in Chennai where I can get these bangle bags. Actually I need them for my 5-year old daughter. I place her bangles in those wooden bangle stands, but they occupy so much space and just a small push would cause the bangles to fall down.

    And, like everyone said you are soooo organized. Hats off to you. I loved the way you stored your bangles 🙂

    1. Hey Meera, You can find the same bangle bags at Pothys. I usually hate to go there due to the crowd but when I did go there once I found they have almost everything a women wants. They have awesome bangles and bags in affordable price. If not Pothys, you can find them in Angels (Anna Nagar and Velachery), Alankar (Anna Nagar) and Jazz (Velachery).. Also Santosh Stores, Anna Nagar have better ones too.. like it has silk finish bangle bags..

        Santhosh and Angels are close by cos I stay at Ambattur. Only y’day I went to Annanagar Rasi Silks. If I had known this before, I would have dropped into Santosh or Angels. Anyway, planning to go soon – your bangle collection and organizing have inspired me.

  27. Aarthi, your collection reminds me of my mom’s bangle collection. Infact she has got a huge bangle stand made on the door of her almirah. :))

    You have a beautiful collection. I mostly wear fancy bangles but I have permanently worn two gold bangles for my saasu maa. :shy: :shy: Actually i should be wearing red glass bangles but I hate it when it breaks so it’s only on occasions that I wear them.

    I also like to wear traditional stuff but do not get the chance often, Where can I buy these bangle bags in India? (I have only seen bangle stands before).Please let me know if it is available in kerala or chennai as I’ll be coming down this year 🙂
