A few years ago, before it was chopped off to make space for heaven knows what, we had a henna tree in our backyard. Every Sunday, my sister and I used to have the maid grind its leaves on a stone grinder that my grandmother had. We would add some curd to it and coat our hairs slick with the paste for one hour before washing it off with “amla-reetha-shikakai,” which had been soaked in water overnight. We did this religiously and the efforts showed in our thick, lustrous, shining, not-so-long (my mother would have them chopped every two months if they crossed shoulder length) hair. After the tree was chopped off, I switched to the powdered ones available in market. Even they worked fine for me as long as I mixed either eggs or yogurt to them before applying on hair, failing to do which led my hair to turn extremely dry and frizzy, but then, I moved to a different city and all my carefully acquired habits took a backseat, the brunt of which my hair had to bear. I have again started my weekly henna regimen and today I will review for you henna from a brand that I have grown to love very much – Banjara’s.
Name of the Product:
Banjara’s Natural Henna.
Rs. 65 for 100 gm.
Banjara’s Natural Henna powder is light and heat sensitive, as it is an organic product with no preservative added. Natural Henna comes with a whole lot of benefits for hair and skin. Being a product of nature, it seldom causes adverse reaction. Natural Henna is generally safe for use on children as it is free from dangerous chemical dyes and harsh additives. Trust Banjara’s Natural Henna to work for your hair and skin.
My Experience with Banjara’s Natural Henna:
Before I begin with the review, let me describe my hair type. I have shoulder length hair, extremely frizzy and dry. I also suffer from hair loss, although the condition is improving. The powder is light green in colour and has the characteristic tangy smell that henna powders have. I love this smell. The application process as described in the sachet requires one to mix the powder with water to form a paste of appropriate thickness and apply it all over the hair for about 25 minutes before washing it off with shampoo. I however, add some curd to it because henna without curd makes my hair even more dry and frizzy. My sister adds instant coffee powder to the paste and I have no idea what it does. It has something to do with intensifying the colour, but I have failed to notice any such thing in the appearance of my sister’s hair.
About 50 gm is more than enough for my shoulder length hair. I apply the paste generously all over my hair and leave it for a whole one hour instead of the suggested 25 minutes, mostly because I am used to putting on any natural hair mask for nothing less than an hour. Then, I wash it off with cold water and shampoo. Getting it off the hair does require some efforts, but the results are so good that I don’t really care. My hair seems soft and shiny. The frizz also seems controlled. It makes my bush of a hair a lot easier to manage. One other thing that I noticed was that my hair was getting straighter although, I am not sure if I can attribute it to the henna. The henna does nothing to change the colour of your hair or even to intensify or highlight it, but this isn’t a con for me as I love the natural colour of my hair. Summing it up, it makes a great mask for your hair, making it smooth and shiny and frizz free.
Pros of Banjara’s Natural Henna:
- Made my hair shiny and smooth.
- Hair appeared less frizzy.
- I am not sure but I think my hair seems straighter.
- Made hair manageable.
Cons of Banjara’s Natural Heena:
- Unlike many hennas of other brands, did not make the colour of my hair rich.
4.5 (- 0.5 for not adding to the richness of the colour of my hair).
