bareMinerals Bare Skin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation Review

I am a huge fan of bareMinerals loose powder mineral foundation and consider it HG status. On my recent haul, I had picked up a few of liquid bareMinerals stuff as opposed to powder. Read on to know more about Bare Skin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation with Broad Spectrum SPF 20.

My Experience with bareMinerals Bare Skin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation:

Packaging:  This foundation comes in a plastic bottle with a screw lid. The bottle needs to be shaken before use or the serum and pigment tends to separate.

Consistency/Blendability/Coverage:  This foundation is on the thinner side and a little bit runny. I found it extremely difficult to blend with a foundation brush and it left a lot of streaking. My preferred method has been to use a Beauty Blender sponge even though I feel the sponge absorbs a lot of product due to the very runny nature of this foundation, but it still gives the best finish.  This foundation gives medium coverage which is very surprising for the thin and lightweight nature of this foundation. In summer, I tend to prefer lightweight, light coverage foundation on a daily basis and I found this foundation to give my skin very natural-looking coverage which camouflaged all my skin imperfections.

Shade and Finish:  This foundation comes in 20 shades which is a very good range. I am in the shade “Bare Natural 07” and it is not too pink or too yellow. It suits my MAC NW 23 skin tone perfectly. The finish of this foundation is demi matte with a very natural glow from within look. It makes you skin look very healthy and supple.

Look and Feel on skin/Staying Power:  Now, coming to the aspect that I absolutely hate about this foundation. The first time that I had applied this foundation, it accentuated and stuck to every dry patch on my skin, even the ones that I did not know I had.  In summers, my skin leans more towards normal rather than really dry hence this dry patch issue was surprising to me and I did not expect this from a serum foundation. This foundation makes my skin look cracked, flaky and just horrible.

Over the next few uses, I made sure to properly moisturize my face before application and I mean really moisturize using a thick layer of moisturizer along with facial oil, and only then, I felt that this foundation looked good on my skin, but around 5-6 hours into wear, it started clinging on to my dry patches again.

This foundation never sets completely onto the skin if I don’t use powder (which I would have used, but I did not want to risk having powder on top of a foundation, which already isn’t forgiving for my dry patches) and transfers on everything – on my fingers, my phone, etc. The staying power of this foundation is okay. It started to get shiny and faded around 4 hours if I was wearing it outside, but this foundation wore really good for about 6 hours when I was indoors in an AC environment for most part of the day.

I do like the fact that this foundation has SPF 20, but it’s prone to having flashback in photos.

Overall, I had high expectations from this foundation and I was left very disappointed. It has beautiful coverage and looks and feels very lightweight and natural on the skin, but the way it clings to my dry patches and the poor staying power are not at all acceptable. I will not recommend this and suggest you look into loose mineral powders instead if you do want to try a foundation from this brand.

Pros of bareMinerals Bare Skin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation:

  • Buildable coverage, medium to full.
  • Lightweight feel on skin.
  • Makes skin look supple and healthy and gives a very natural glow.
  • Has demi-matte finish, not too dewy, not too flat.
  • SPF 20.
  • Paraben free.

Cons of bareMinerals Bare Skin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation:

  • Difficult to apply with a brush, goes on super streaky. I would recommend using a sponge.
  • Clings to every single dry patch on the skin and accentuates them in the most unflattering way.
  • Need to moisturize the skin intensely before application.
  • Poor staying power, especially if you are going to be out and about.
  • Does get shiny on the skin and fade at around 5 hours.

  1. Clings to dry patches? Not for me then, heavy moisturization will cause breakouts, I prefer foundations that need just light moisturizing 🙂
