I simply love doing DIY’s at home, it is just so much fun! This time, I have got for you all another super fun DIY. My last bath and body DIY was Bath Bombs and this time it is bath jellies!!! *pompom* So, tell me do you all like eating jellies? I am not a big fan of eating one but love looking at them, they are so much fun! Lush makes awesome bath jellies and I always wondered that why can’t we make it! So, I decided to experiment with things. Now, actually you require gelatin to make this, but because I am a vegetarian and also it is not available that easily as we require the unflavored one, I have used the vegetarian version of gelatin i.e Agar Agar also called as china grass.
So, here’s a super easy and super duper fun to do DIY *happy dance* I was thinking of a name for this, jellies are always dancing, hence I came up with “Dancing in the shower-Bath ellies” 😛
Things you will need:
- Gelatin or its vegetarian version Agar Agar (I have used Agar Agar)- 2 packets.
- Shower gel of your choice – 3-4 tablespoon.
- Olive Oil/Jojoba oil – 1 tbsp.
- Food coloring (Optional) – Few drops.
- Boiling hot water – 2 cups.
Procedure:
Step 1: Break Agar Agar as it comes in a solid form unlike gelatin.
Step 2: Pour boiling water little by little, stirring at the same time. Let Agar Agar dissolve completely. In fact, if you want to add Agar Agar in the boiling water and let it dissolve completely it is okay.
Step 3: In the mixture, add shower gel and mix.
Step 4: Add Olive oil in the mixture and stir properly.
Step: Put it in the refrigerator and let it chill! It will take about 2-3 hours or leave it overnight to set completely.
Once set, cut into your favorite shapes or simple squares and use it! You can store it in a jar, transparent jar would also add on to the look, but But due to this extreme heat that most of us are facing right now, I would suggest you to store it in the refrigerator.
Trust me guys, this is so much fun to use 😀 I had made this batch for a friend of mine, for a birthday. It is a great gift as well.
Pros of Homemade Bath Jellies:
- Super easy to make.
- Does not take time.
- Functions well as a cleanser.
- Cute and fun.
- Can be a great gift!
Cons of Homemade Bath Jellies:
- Agar Agar is very difficult to find – a few general, medical stores or cold storage stores do keep them.
Words of Caution or (rather Lessons learnt from my experiment! 😛 )
- While using Agar Agar, you can also melt agar agar in water on flame rather than doing vice versa like I did. (In fact, the first option is better!)
- Honestly, this jelly was a failure at first, it did not set!!! So, don’t worry if the same happens with you as well. In such cases, add more agar agar and boil the entire mixture, then transfer it in a bowl and refrigerate it. You will find success and your mixture will not go waste.
- The key here is to ensure that there is enough Agar Agar and it has melted well.
Things that you can add:
- You can pour the mixture in your favorite mould and give it fun shapes!
- If you want to add essential oils, you can definitely add onto the benefits.
- You can make them in different colors and pack it in a nice transparent jar for gifting purpose.
- You can add shimmer, small cute fun particles, anything you can think of!
So, put on your creative hats and get going! *happydance*
Thank you guys for reading, it means a hell lot. Do let me know what you think of this!
