My Experiences with Batiste Stylist Shield My Locks Heat and Shine Spray:
Batiste shield my locks heat and shine spray comes in a long cylindrical metal can with spray nozzle. The bottle is quite colourful and quirky in appearance. The spray nozzle works perfectly and dispenses the product evenly. The can houses all the information regarding the product. Overall, the packaging is easy to use and travel-friendly.
Unlike most of the heat protectant sprays, this has to be used on dry hair which means it cannot be used before blow-drying. However, I usually air dry my hair and when I have to use a blow dryer, I use it on the cool setting. Considerably, using the product on dry hair also has its pros – I don’t have to wet hair every time before styling and wait for them to dry. The spray does not come out as an aerosol, but as fine mist/spritz.
After spraying, it makes the hair a little wet. There are tiny gold flecks in the spritz that adds instant shine to the hair. I have tried to capture the gold flecks in the swatch. The formula is lightweight and non-greasy which does not let the hair weigh down. It has floral fragrance, but I find it strong for my liking. When I am done with styling, then the fragrance becomes milder and remains there for good two or two and half hours. I like the fragrance when it is milder. It contains alcohol as its main ingredient, but I haven’t noticed any adverse effect on my hair.
To use, I keep the can 6-7 inches away and spray the product all over my sectioned hair – starting from mid to end – before styling. After spraying, I ruffle them to distribute the product evenly. I refrain from putting hair sprays close to the scalp as they have the capability of making my top look flat in a day only. As I mentioned, the spray makes the hair a little wet, hence, I wait for a few minutes before starting the process. If the styling tool, especially straightener, is used over wet hair just after spraying the product, I can see a little smoke.
When I use this heat protectant, my hair loses its freshness at the end of the 2nd day and after that, I feel a need to wash them. May be it’s my hair and scalp type that also contributes to it, but I must mention this. It makes them a bit greasy which makes me feel dirty and I can’t go for 3rd day without shampooing in any case.
The product does a good job at protecting hair from heat. It provides protection up to 230 degree Celsius. It makes hair shinier, softer and smoother instantly. I haven’t noticed any damage because of using styling tools. It leads to less hair breakage and protects the ends from getting dry and frayed. Overall, it does its job perfectly.
On the other note, the product can be used on its own as well to provide healthy looking shine to the hair. It conditions the hair and makes them softer. However, it cannot tame frizzy hair when used on its own. To use on its own, I spray it over my hair, focusing on ends and keeping it away from the roots.
