The nutmeg tree is indigenous to the Banda Islands of Indonesia but is also grown in the Caribbean The brown seed from the nutmeg tree has a spicy sweet flavor and we often use it as a strong flavoring agent in our kitchens.Did you know Mace is the dried membrane from around the nutmeg seed that we often use in Biryanis? I did not 😛 Well lets see how many benefits some ground nutmeg powder can have for our beauty and skin care..I bet you would ground and store some nutmeg today itself 🙂
Cinnamon,honey and nutmeg for acne:
Combined with cinnamon, it makes a powerful antiseptic, antimicrobial paste.Take equal portion and apply on breakout for ten minutes daily, you can reduce or increase the timing according to how much you skin can take the potency. This will help in reducing scars and alleviating acne.
Honey and Nutmeg powder for blemishes:
You can mix the above and use it on for 30 minutes for acne marks.
Milk and nutmeg powder facial:
Mix a tablespoon of full fat milk for dry skin and slim milk for oily skin, with a few piches of nutmeg powder, keep this mix on for 30 minutes not more, remove with cold water.
Mix about half a teaspoon of nutmeg with about a quarter teaspoon of honey into a paste, apply some of it on acne marks after washing face and leave it for about 20 – 30 minutes before rinising off.
Part of our beauty, fresh breath is always in 😉 Because of its antibacterial properties, nutmeg can rid your mouth of bacteria. This is the reason why nutmeg is a common ingredient in many brands of toothpastes.
Mix a few pinches each of nutmeg powder and baking soda, dip your brush in it and dry brush you teeth, this will whiten teeth and remove bad breath as well.
Masoor Dal and Nutmeg Scrub:
You could use dry masoor dal powder and two pinches o nutmeg power to scrub your face gently to get rid of blocked pores and blackheads, when you see a breakout in the offing, this really helps to unplug those clogged pores.
Milk Powder and Nutmeg for acne marks:
For acne marks too, you could use a scrub made of nutmeg and milk powder, keep the consistency comfortable and use only less than few pinches of nutmeg powder, remember it is very potent.
In case of red dry patches of eczema, you can rub nutmeg seed with water, just like you would make a paste of chandan stick, apply this paste on to eczema. But you must check if nutmeg works too strong for you or causes any irritation.
I and my friends from college often discuss how we are unable to sleep till 3 am in the mornings 🙁 well, this is what I found out, I always knew one should have warm cup of milk to sleep well, but add a pinch or two of nutmeg to warm milk and have it before bedtime to catch on your beauty sleep.
Just a heads up, you should store powdered or whole nutmeg seeds in a dry air tight container, it should not be exposed to sunlight ,heat, steam or moisture 🙂 Nutmeg is also an aphrodisiac 😛 well no harm in trying isn’t it?
Caution: If you’re sensitive, test this treatment on a small section of skin, or leave on for less than 30 minutes.
