AHAs or alpha hydroxy acids are being given a lot of significance in the skin care industry.  You might be wondering about the hype surrounding AHAs.  Actually, its a boon for dull, lifeless, damaged, and blemished skin texture.  AHAs rejuvenate and refine skin by giving a microdermabrasion kind of an effect leading to soft and smooth skin.  The concentration of AHAs in over-the-counter ointments and skin creams is less than 10% and even at this concentration, AHAs gently exfoliate skin and give you even toned skin.  They also help in erasing fine lines. Practicing dermatologists use much higher concentrations at their clinic for chemical peeling to clear off scars, blemishes, pigmentation, and fine lines.  Alpha hydroxy acids have been used in beauty treatments since ancient times due to their exfoliating and rejuvenating properties.  Centuries ago, sour milk and fruit juices (which had natural AHAs) were used to get soft and smooth skin.  Alpha hydroxy acids help get rid of damaged skin to reveal fresh skin that’s free of all blemishes.  AHAs work for all skin types though it may not be suitable for sensitive skin types even at lower concentrations.  AHA’s can be used to get rid of acne scars and skin discoloration to get even skin tone.  Alpha hydroxy acids such as glycolic, lactic, tartaric, and malic acids are derived from natural sources like milk and fruits (apple and sugarcane).

AHAs exfoliate skin by loosening up the bonds that hold dead and damaged skin cells together.  In doing so, they improve the skin’s tone, texture, as well as the appearance of fine lines.  Glycolic acids penetrate the damaged layer of skin, exfoliate and clear off dead skin cells to reveal smoother and fresh skin. However, one has to be careful while using AHA based creams or peels because they make the skin a lot more sensitive to the sun and hence wearing a sunscreen is mandatory to protect the new skin.

If you have dull and lifeless skin, but then skeptical of undergoing chemical peeling using AHAs, you can still get the benefits of these acids by using skin care products that have AHA concentration like cleansers, toners, and moisturizers.  Including them in your CTM routine will give you clear skin in a short period of time.

AHAs also refine and soften the skin, a boon indeed for all skin types, especially damaged skin type.

Currently, I am looking for AHA concentration in my skin care products, it’s a sure shot way to get rid of major skin issues.
