8 Beauty Tools You Need to Create Every Makeup Look

Hi everyone,

Today’s post is about the beauty tools that you could consider adding to your makeup collection to be able to create just about any makeup look that you fancy. From a sultry, smoky eye to a sculpted, contoured look, these beauty tools will help you achieve it all. When I was starting out with my makeup collection, I was quite overwhelmed by the number of tools, brushes, sponges, etc. available out there. I just didn’t know what I really needed and what I could do without. However, over the years, I’ve been able to narrow it down to the absolute essentials. I’m going to share that list with all of you today and I hope you find it just as useful. Once you get hold of these, there’s really not much more that you need to get that flawless makeup finish.

Beauty tools to create new makeup

1. A foundation brush:

Foundation, concealer and a setting powder are the three products that you need to create a perfect makeup base. Getting your base right is essential. Liquid foundation is the most common type of foundation preferred by most of us. To apply liquid foundation perfectly, you need to invest in a foundation brush. The type of brush that you choose to buy should be determined by the kind of coverage you’re looking to get. I would recommend going for a buffing brush, such as the Real Techniques Buffing Brush or even the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush.
Concealer is best applied with fingertips or a sponge. If you’re sticking to the absolute essentials, then I wouldn’t recommend investing in a concealer brush.

2. Eyeshadow blending brush:

There are very many types of brushes that you can buy for eyeshadow application, but if you’re looking to buy only one, then it’ll have to be an eyeshadow blending brush, such as the MAC 217 brush. This will not only help you apply various eyeshadows across the lid and in the crease, but it’ll pull the eyeshadow look together, giving you a perfected finish. If you’re using cream or stick eyeshadows, then those are best applied with your fingers.

3. Blush Brush:

With powder blushes, something like the Real Techniques blush brush is ideal for application. Blush brushes are usually tapered at the end for flawless and precise blush application. If you’re using a cream blush, then using your fingers for application is best.

4.  Setting Brush:

To set your concealer either under the eyes or on spots across the face, using a setting powder is recommended. If it’s under the eyes, you could use a yellow-based setting powder. A setting brush for the same is quite handy.

5. Contour/Highlighter Brush:

You could get one brush for both these purposes – contouring and highlighting. This brush should be a smaller one compared with other face brushes, as it helps with precise application in the hollows of your cheeks (contour) or on the tops of your cheekbones (highlighter). The same can be used to apply highlighter down the bridge of your nose and on your brow bone. I recommend Makeup Revolution Pro F105 Contour Brush for contouring and Sigma High Cheekbone Highlighter Brush for highlighting.

6. Powder Brush:

This one is another must-have makeup brush. A large and fluffy brush is ideal for applying pressed powder or loose finishing powder all over your face. This will give you an even and flawless finish and will prevent the powder from caking up on your face. The same brush can be used for applying bronzer as well. However, if you’re looking for a higher coverage with your powder, you could consider using a kabuki brush or a flat-topped densely packed powder brush, such as the ELF Powder Brush.

7. A makeup blending sponge:

A true all-rounder, a makeup blending sponge is an absolute must-have for everyone. Whether you’re looking for seamless foundation application or blending in your concealer, this sponge will do everything for you to give you a wonderful base. Beauty Blender is a classic, but the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion is also really good and affordable.

8. An eyelash curler:

There’s nothing to beat a good eyelash curler in your stash. It gives your eyelashes that lift and instantly makes you look more radiant and awake. Heat up your eyelash curler with a hair dryer for a few seconds for a more effective and long-lasting curl.

9. Scotch Tape! Yes, you read that right! To prevent eyeshadows from ruining the rest of makeup and to catch fallout, pick a scotch tape and stick it around the eye area. You can also use a scotch to draw perfect eyeliner – cut an inch long tape and place it at the outer corner of the eye, at an angle that goes towards the temple area. Start drawing liner from the upper lash line and carry it towards the outer corner of the eye using short strokes. Using the tape as a guide, draw the eyeliner along the tape. Now, remove the tape, and that perfect liner is ready to be flaunted!

There are plenty of options available for the above-mentioned makeup tools/brushes across various budgets. Using the right tools can make all the difference to how your makeup looks on your skin!
