Becca Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation Review

Hello everyone,

As is evident from her line and her most popular shimmering skin perfector, if someone knows “glow.” it’s Becca! When she released her new “Aqua Luminous Foundation,” I knew I had to have it because who doesn’t love the healthy-glowy skin look which this foundation claims to deliver.  This review will be on the Becca Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation in the shade “Beige.”

My Experience with Becca Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation:

Packaging:  This foundation comes in a heavy glass bottle which is not very travel friendly and not ideal for clumsy people. You have to twist the cap which makes a button pop out which is pressed to fill and disperse product out of the dropper. I personally do not like droppers with foundation and with the consistency that this foundation has, it would have worked equally well with a pump.

Consistency and Blendability:  This foundation is very thin and liquid-y, but it is not watery or too runny. You need one full pump of the dropper for your whole face. It does blend quite easily with a Beauty Blender or even your fingers. A few taps and dabs and it blends to an even, seamless, streak-free finish which I like.

Coverage and Finish:  This foundation is a light-medium coverage foundation. Though it is said that it is buildable, which I have tried to do, but even then, the coverage does not surpass medium. If you have a lot of skin issues to cover or if you are a full-coverage gal, in general, you will not like this foundation unless you bring in a concealer to address those issues. I do feel this foundation is more suitable for girls with already good skin who are only looking to even out their skin tone but are mostly looking to add a lot of luminosity and glow and thereby addressing dullness of their skin.

This foundation does add a beautiful yet natural-looking luminosity to the skin. I wouldn’t describe it as dewy, but your skin does catch the light and makes you glowing and “lit from within.” It gives an appearance of youthful and healthy skin, which I love. It does not look heavy or like it’s sitting on top of the skin.

Look and feel on skin:  Once applied, this foundation does feel tacky. Even after a few minutes, it does not completely set and it will transfer onto your fingers if you touch your face. Using a setting powder over this foundation is a must. It feels very hydrating and moisturizing on the skin hence this foundation is more suited for normal to dry skin and oily skin beauties should steer clear of this.

Since it is so moisturizing, it kept my dry skin pretty comfortable and did not aggravate my dryness or cling to dry patches. I did notice this foundation sinking into my pores and creasing on my fine lines on my forehead and smile lines. It did perform better with a smoothing, silicone-based primer underneath.

This foundation will not smooth out the skin’s texture. After my India trip, my skin is in a pretty bad shape and I have lots of bumps and uneven texture. I find that this foundation only makes them look worse.

Shade:  This foundation comes in 8 shades, hence for those falling on either end of the spectrum of skin tone –being too pale or too dark may find it difficult to get a match. I got the shade “Beige,” which is described as light/medium with neutral undertones. It does match my skin tone, but does run a bit yellow. I prefer my foundation to have more pink to it as it looks more natural against pink undertone of my skin.

Staying Power:  Since it is absolutely necessary to set this foundation with a powder, the staying power largely depends of the kind of powder you are using. When I have used an oil-control mattifying powder to set this, I found my foundation wore well for 6-7 hours with some shine and fading starting to occur. When I have used a regular lightweight setting powder, I started to notice shine and fading occurring at 5 hours which is when touch up was required.

Overall, I had high hopes from this product, but it did leave me a bit underwhelmed. I have hits and misses both with it. I do really like the how beautiful, glowy and luminous it looks on the skin which peaks through even after setting it with power without making you look too dewy, shiny or greasy. I do like how lightweight and moisturizing it feels on my dry skin. I don’t like the poor staying power and how it sinks into pores and creases on fine lines and makes my uneven skin texture look even worse. This foundation is not suitable for oily skin at all.

I will only recommend this to girls who are normal-dry skin type and have good skin to begin with and who do not mind light coverage but are looking to get naturally glowy and youthful-looking skin.

Pros of Becca Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation:

  • Easy to blend.
  • Lightweight on the skin.
  • Very moisturizing.
  • Gorgeous finish on the skin, just the right amount of glowy and luminous without being too dewy or shiny.
  • Natural and youthful looking on the skin.

Cons of Becca Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation:

  • Really dislike the dropper dispenser, I prefer a pump with my foundations.
  • Heavy glass bottle.
  • Not travel friendly.
  • Not suitable for oily skin.
  • Does need to be set with powder or it will feel tacky and will transfer.
  • Poor staying power.
  • Not for gals who love full coverage for their problematic skin.
  • Sinks into pores and fine lines, using a smoothing silicone-based primer would help.
