Becca Songbird Mineral Blush Review

Switching gears from liquid lipsticks, today’s review is on Becca’s blushes, in particular “Songbird.” Becca’s highlighters are the most raved about products from the brand. Their blushes are not far behind. They have quite a range of blushes available – there are beach tints, there are Beach Tint shimmer Souffles, there are mineral blushes and the newer shimmering skin perfector luminous blushes.

All these formulas have been reviewed on IMBB. I had reviewed two of the Beach tint shimmer Souffles – Watermelon/Moonstone and Papaya/Topaz, both of which I love and I love Becca Shimmering skin perfector in Moon-stone. With good luck with the brand so far, I was keen to expand my exposure with them and super excited to try their powder blushes.

So, instead of picking a single, I decided to pick this blush palette instead. The palette is Limited Edition, however, 2 of the 3 blushes in it, are from the permanent range, while one is exclusive to the palette. Let’s find out more about this palette.

This itself makes the palette an amazing investment. Yes, the product size is not the same as that of an individual blush – so you aren’t getting 3 full size blushes, but you pretty much are getting to try 3 of their blushes for the price of one.

Packaging:  The palette packaging is absolutely stunning! It’s a beautiful mirror finish compact which is absolutely beautiful to look at. It is brown in colour with seeming flecks of gold on it. Stunning! Not loud! It’s light in feel and made of plastic but the plastic seems good quality – not flimsy. The mirror inside is again very good quality. There is no applicator included, which I personally am quite okay with. The flip side has the names of the products mentioned on it. It comes packed in a cardboard packaging which is in-keeping with the look of the palette and has all three shades pictured on top. The palette looks study enough to travel with and does not seem to come open on its own.

My Experience with Becca Songbird Mineral Blush:

First and foremost, let me put in a disclaimer here itself, I am not fond of palettes – blushes, highlighters, contour, etc. The only type of palettes I like are eyeshadow palettes. For me, it’s a simple logic – when a Company makes a palette, they try to ensure that there are shades there to suit a spectrum of people. So even if I go very basic, there are still 6 basic skin tones to cater to – fair, medium, tan – in both, cool and warm tones. Right? There is no way that one palette can suit/work for this whole range. So, invariably, what happened is that even though you get a palette of say 4 shades or 6 shades or something – only a few will suit you. Rest will remain pretty much untouched, while you did pay for the whole. When I say this, I am obviously talking about an individual customer and not a makeup artist who has to work with a variety of skin tones and undertones.

and yet I bought this….why?

• Value for money: I get to try 3 shades at the price of one
• Ease of travel
• Convenience of carrying
• The shade selection: It literally has the perfect shade selection – espe-cially for my skin tone. Starting from mauvey dusty pink to a warm peachy shade to a coral pink. Pretty much the whole gamut of blush shades is covered – at least the basic range of shades is taken care of.

Shades:

The palette has 3 shades. Let’s talk them up one by one:
1. Wisteria – This one is a Limited edition shade unique to this palette. But knowing Becca, I’m sure the shade will join the permanent line somewhere in the future. This shade is in the Mineral finish formula. This shade is a light to medium dusty-mauvey pink. The shade will show up easily on fair to medium skin tone. For deeper skin tone – this may not show up much – even with building up of the colour. It is a beautiful, everyday, “no-brainer” colour. It looks very pretty and adds just a hint of freshness to the face. The pigmentation on this one is more buildable. You do not get the colour in the pan with one swipe but it’s easy to build up if required, which is actually excellent for someone new to blushes – less chances of the person going overboard. The texture of the blush is absolutely lovely – it is soft and silky and blends easily. This one did kick up some product but nothing too bad. The wear this gave me was about 6.5-7 hours on my oily skin, so not stellar, but fairly okay. If I were to build it up a bit, which I generally don’t, it would last a tad bit longer. My oily skin does like to eat up this product.

2. Songbird:  This is THE most gorgeous blush in the palette. It is again in the mineral finish formula and is part of the permanent collection. It looks fairly brown in the palette with slight orange undertone. Honestly, I was thinking this shade may be a miss from the palette and I would probably use it only to give definition to my cheeks. Boy, was I wrong! This one is a lovely medium warm peachy shade with golden undertone and excellent pigmentation. It is so easy to work with and blends easily. Someone with fair skin will have to go real light with this – maybe use a fan brush or some-thing. For medium skin too, I take it on a natural hair brush and then dust it off because it picks up too much at one go. This one is again a “no-brainer” warm shade which will work with a host of looks. The texture of this one is again really silky, soft and smooth. It’s quite buttery to touch. This one undoubtedly is the absolute winner in the palette – it steals the thunder of the other shades. It lasts for about 7.5-8 hours.

3. Snapdragon – This blush is part of the Shimmering Skin Perfector Luminous blush line and is from their permanent collection. It has already been reviewed by Neha. So, I won’t go into too much detail but will still add my 2 pence. This one is a pinky coral shade with a luminous finish. This one didn’t seem as buttery soft as the other two, which may just be the difference in texture of the two lines. You can feel the difference in texture. However, don’t mistake it for thinking that I am saying it’s stiff or something, it’s not! It’s just a tad bit firmer the the other two blush shades. Also, it is super pigmented. So, you have to go in with a light hand and a feathery brush. Once on, it blends easily and smoothly – like the other 2 shades. This one lasts even longer on me – about 8-8.5 hours.

I think it’s a lovely palette with a great mix of shades and with good quality. Also, the size of the palette and of the individual pans is fairly decent. Any regular blush brush – like MAC 116, Wayne Goss Air Brush, etc can be used to apply. The brush head would easily dip into the pan. I mention this because sometimes with palettes being too handy – a regular brush doesn’t even dip into it and everything just seems too pointless at the end of it!

Pros of Becca Songbird Mineral Blush:

• Finely milled, smooth, easily blendable blushes.
• Good selection of shades – for fair/ medium skin tone.
• Excellent pigmentation.
• Lasts well on my combination/oily face.
• The color works well for day and night both.
• Stunning packaging.
• Does not break me out.
• There is no shakiness or powderiness.
• It does not accentuate pores.
• Free from parabens, Sulfates, Phthalates.
• Good bang for your buck!
• Get to try 3 shades for the price of 1
• Easy to travel with.

Cons of Becca Songbird Mineral Blush:

• One of the shades – Wisteria – may not show up on tan skin.

I absolutely love this palette. If anyone is thinking of trying Becca blushes, or wants to buy their first blush, or someone who wants a variety of shades to travel with – this one clicks all the boxes! From packaging to shade selection to quality of product – the palette delivers on all counts!
