My Experience with Becca Watermelon/Opal Beach Tint Lip Shimmer Soufflé :

I have been pretty impressed with Becca products in the past, namely the shimmering skin perfectors which are my all-time favorite highlighters. So when these new Lip Shimmer Soufflés were released I was very intrigued by them not to mention the gorgeous swirl design compelled me to buy this product.

Packaging:
These are not packaged as the traditional lip gloss in a tube with a wand applicator instead this product comes in a clicky pen format with a slated silicone applicator. This sort of format works very well for the type of product this is which is a swirl patterned mix of 2 shades and helps keep them separated, which would have been difficult if it were a traditional tube format with constant dipping of wand in the tube.

The beautiful design of the swirl pattern of colors is visible through a portion of the pen. The click mechanism isn’t the best. The product when it is brand new has to be clicked multiple almost 8-10 times for the product to rise up and the metallic mirror finish body does attract fingerprints. The silicone applicator tip does work well with a product like this helping it spread on the lips easily and does not absorb any product. It is also easy to wipe clean after every use which is what I prefer to do, so I don’t have a glop of old product waiting for me the next time I use the product.

Texture/ Consistency & Feel:
This product has a very weird texture. Upon initial application it applies very thick which eventually thins as it sets after a few minutes. I have to take care not to purse my lips together while it is setting as it tends to bunch up in places and also forms those annoying lines on the inside of your lips when you press and open your mouth. This product even though it coats and cling to the lips it does not feel very hydrating and comfortable to wear.

Shade, Finish, Pigmentation:
This product comes in 6 different shades which are a blend of one 1 colorful shade + 1 shimmer shade as depicted in the name. For example Watermelon/Opal consists of the color Watermelon mixed with the shimmer shade Opal which is the shade that is sold as an individual highlight as well (review here). I love the fact that just like in the highlighters the shimmer in this lip product isn’t gritty. You cannot see individual particles of shimmer instead it just gives a beautiful sheen.

I have a problem with how this shade comes out of the pen. Sometimes, I feel that I do not get equal quantity of color and shimmer hence I will sometimes end up with super frosty looking lips (Like in the LOTD) if I get more of the shimmer side. The product does come out of the tube separated and applied that way too; you have to slide the applicator over your lips a couple of times to mix them together.

The pigmentation of this product in terms of imparting color and covering pigmented lips is average-low. It does give a sheer coat of color to the lips and will not be enough on its own to cover pigmented lips. I find the best way to use this product is over some sort of lip product like a lip liner with a hint of this Shimmer Soufflé in the center of the lips sparingly. Using this over a lip product also helps by filling in some of the fine lines on the lips hence gives less opportunity for this Shimmer Soufflé to settle in.

Staying Power:
I was very disappointed in this aspect. It hardly stayed 3 hours on me before almost fading away. It does transfer minimally and fades way faster if you eat or drink anything.

Fragrance:
It has a mild pleasant scent which doesn’t linger when applied on the lips.
Overall. I am not very impressed this product. I do not like how this product feels on the lips with it sticky texture, its tendency to sink into lines and it’s not particularly comfortable to wear on my lips. It does have a tendency to make the lips look frosty if over applied hence the best method to use this is very sparingly over another lip product. I do not like it enough to recommend it.

Second is when applied topped over Marc Jacobs (P)Outliner Longwear Lip Pencil in the shade Primrose (Review here) and dabbed it in the center of the lips sparingly.

Pros of Becca Watermelon/Opal Beach Tint Lip Shimmer Soufflé :

• Beautiful packaging
• Nice scent which is not overpowering
• The shimmer particles are not gritty and do not linger on the lips when the product has faded away.

Cons of Becca Watermelon/Opal Beach Tint Lip Shimmer Soufflé:

• Very thick texture upon application which does eventually thin out
• Does feel sticky and tends to bunch up into globs
• Does give those annoying lines on the inside of your lips when pressed together
• Can look very frosty if applied as a thick coat
• Not pigmented enough and does not impart a strong color to cover pigmented lips
• I am not a huge fan of silicone applicator though it works with the type of product this is
• The clicky pen format can be a bit annoying to use. Sometimes you click and nothing comes out, sometimes too much comes out.
• Poor sStaying power
