Benefit Rockateur Ultra Plush Lip Gloss Review

I came across a Benefit booth and felt compelled to pick up a few things after seeing so many reviews on this particular brand. I picked up the Rockitude Lip and Cheek Kit because I felt those colours will work best for me. Anyway, let’s find out more about this lip gloss, shall we?

Packaging: The gloss comes in a see-through plastic packaging with a silver cap. It is a squeeze tube, the applicator is completely plastic. The applicator is angled well, which makes it easy to manoeuvre and apply product on the cupid’s bow. Now, I got mine in a mini-size, but there’s still a lot of product in the tube (6.5 mL). The full size has double the mini-size (15 mL).

Price:
I got the entire kit for 280 HKD, so not sure how much the mini-size will cost. The full size retails for 16 USD.

Product Description:

Shade: This shade is a coral pink with golden shimmer running through it. The gold does not look too apparent but it is very pretty when it catches the light. Their website describes the shade as a soft rose gold lip gloss and I agree that that is an accurate description of the product.  The colour is absolutely gorgeous and I think it will suit a variety of skin tones.

Consistency: I am not a fan of sticky lip glosses, so I didn’t know what to expect from this, but the texture and feel of this is very smooth and comfortable on the lips. It is very lightweight and non sticky. It is the ideal formula for a lip gloss and they have got it down pat. It has a slight perfume-y scent to it, but it isn’t overwhelming, so it doesn’t bother me.

Pigmentation: As this is a gloss, the pigmentation is very sheer. On my lips, when applied on its own, looks like I have a clear gloss on. The shimmer also spreads out a little too much and does not show through on the lips as it does in the swatches. Even on light skin tones, I believe this will only give the lips a hint of colour.

Staying Power:  Staying power is very poor in this gloss. It does not last more than 2 or 3 hours on me. Glosses are usually sticky or tacky to prolong the staying power of them and since this is formulated to be non-sticky, I think the longevity is poor. The shimmer on the other hand, is a bit different, because even after the gloss wears off, the shimmer will stay behind. It looks a bit like chunky silver glitter at the end of the day, which I can’t see in the product swatch or on the lips.

Final thoughts: I would not say this is a rush-out-and-buy type of product, but if you are wanting a good gloss to top off your lips, I would recommend this.

Pros of Benefit Rockateur Ultra Plush Lip Gloss:

• Non-sticky texture.
• Very comfortable and lightweight on the lips.
• Beautiful shade with golden shimmer.
• Solid packaging.

Cons of Benefit Rockateur Ultra Plush Lip Gloss:

• Shade does not show through on tan to deep skin tones (looks like clear gloss).
• Poor staying power.
• Chunky silver glitter remains after the gloss has worn off.

Would I Repurchase Benefit Rockateur Ultra Plush Lip Gloss?
I am not a very huge fan of glosses and this one didn’t bowl me over, so I would not be buying this again.
