You might have frequently noticed Salicylic Acid being used in soaps, wash faces and creams as one of the main ingredients. So, I just thought to give an attempt of explaining what Salicylic Acid is and how it works for skin. Salicylic acid is extracted from willow tree in the form of Salicin which is further processed as Salicylic Acid. Due to high metabolism, it is popularly used in anti – acne products and many skin care products. Salicylic acid is poorly soluble in water and has the ability to control the oils that our skin produces and that is why it occupies its use even in sweat free or water resistant formula. Let’s check out the benefits of Salicylic Acid on our skin.
1. Oil Control
Our skin starts releasing oil when a certain content of oil has increased in the body. Salicylic acid has a unique quality to absorb essential oils from the skin. It leaves your skin dry and moisturised and also controls the oil content on the face. Most of the cosmetic products that claim to have sweatblock and water resistant formula, have salicylic acid as its main ingredient.
2. Acne Treatment
Acne is really annoying on your face! There may be several reasons for the eruptions of acne. Salicylic acid is popularly used in anti-acne products. The acid helps to treat your acne well without leaving any scars on the face. It has a supernatural power to pull the impurities and dirt out from the skin, which gives you an acne free look.
3. Anti Stretch Marks Remedy
Stretch marks, mostly permanent ones, when treated properly get lighter and eventually fade away from the skin. Salicylic acid is as good as aspirin, and it helps you get rid of stretch marks or scars from your face. Besides controlling the oil content on your face, it has proven itself to heal the stretch marks and scars on your skin effectively.
4. Psoriasis Fighter
Psoriasis is a skin condition where you have skin cell in the form of patches or scales on the face. There are many treatments and products available to treat Psoriasis. Salicylic acid helps you to get of these extra skin cells and give you an even balanced skin.
5. Anti Skin Inflammation
Redness or inflammations of skin are caused when the pores are clogged and damaged. If you happen to see your skin reddish or have inflammation on it, salicylic acid could help treat them up. It is also effective on any skin allergies or inflammations building up on your skin.
Exfoliation is a must-do step in the skincare regime if you desire to get a clear and glowing skin. Besides cleansing your skin, Salicylic acid is also an exfoliating agent. It exfoliates your skin well and gives you a healthy and glowing skin. But, it is beneficial only when used properly.
7. Skin Rejuvenator
Thickened hard skin is also a serious problem among girls. Your skin starts hardening with unexplained reasons and despite using many products or undergoing herbal treatments, your skin remains as hard as it was. Salicylic acid helps to keep layer of skin cells soft and smooth. Always try to use products which use salicylic acid as its main ingredient on hard skin.
8. Anti Dandruff Properties
It is widely used in anti- dandruff shampoos which helps to fight against the dry scalp and the dandruff flakes. Salicylic acid nourishes your scalp well, removes all the impurities and also does not leave your scalp either oily or over dry.
Salicylic acid is a wonderful ingredient that helps to keep many skin problems at bay and hence, keeps your skin soft and supple. Moreover, it has been found to breakdown the black and white heads from your face. According to a study published in Clinical Therapeutics, Salicylic acids have shown to be superior to any other ingredients in reducing the total number of acne lesions.
